Jimmy's Page

Welcome to Jimmy's Web Page. It has been provided to keep people updated about our Child. Jimmy was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia NOV 18, 2004. He began therapy at Kaiser hospital for a week. He was then sent to Children's Hospital for the installation of a port-a-cath in his chest. He made it through the Induction Phase okay. There was a period of about 3 or 4 weeks where he lost the ability to walk. Mommy bought a stroller to solve that problem. Soon he started to recover. He was put into induction remission on Dec. 31st. The Consolidation phase went much better. The were no hospitalizations during this period. Then came Interim Maintance. He did well during this phase. He was hospitalized once during this time. Nothing major, just a precaution due to lab result indicating a blood infection. It turned out to be a false alarm. After two months of Interim Maintance he started Delayed Intensification. Intense is the name for it. He is still in thaat phase. This phase has been the hardest with vomiting, low counts, hospitalizations, and transfusions. He is still happy through it all. You would never know anything is wrong with him by his behavior. It's the bald head and pale skin that gives it away. We are looking forward to the day he can return to preschool and be with kids his own age.

Journal

Well, I can hardly believe a year has passed since Jimmy rang the end of treatment bell at the clinic. But so it is. This has been a bitter sweet year for us. The sweet is that treatment finished. No sooner had it ended, our dearest neighbor/grandpa began his journey to heaven. Dick was Jimmy's best pal. They spent at least an hour a day together. Sometimes more. It is still difficult to look across the street and not see Dick. We of course are happy that he is with the Lord. He deserved it. More sweet in our life is that we finished our upstairs addition. We can't believe we ever lived without it. More bitter, friends with ALL passed away and others are on hospice. We also had a good friend relapse after 7 1/2 years. It just keeps the worry alive. It's so hard to know what to say. I pray for them all. Now Jimmy is the image of health. He started a new school year at a new school. He is in first grade at St. Therese Academy. He is playing on the boys soccer team. They won their game on Saturday. I can't begin to tell you how happy we are to see him alive and full of energy. Molly is also doing very well. She is now in middle school and loving it. She goes to 6th grade camp next month. Everyone else is doing well. Unless there is anything else, we won't update again till next year.
Thanks for checking in.
God bless,
Alice Marie
