Hi, Marey,
YES - the new medicine IS dissolvable Zofran and yes it is working way, way better than the first stuff. And YES, my insurance would only pay for nine tablets every 22 days. But boy is it better than nausea. I couldn't lift my head.

Congrats to Ali on finishing the bio mid-term. Hooray!

And poor Nolan, getting carded for his student discounts. Sheesh!

Hi Marey and Family,

Thank you for signing Christopher's guestbook. It never hurts to have another prayer warrior on board:) I am so happy to hear Ali has done so well and it gives me tremendous hope for Christopher. I will pray for Ali to remain treatment free for the rest of her life! Also, thanks for the reference to Finn's site. Wow, that was powerful! I may not have a child with cancer, but have felt those feelings many times when it has come to my husband. Just never had guts like her to actually write it down. I will continue to check on you and hope for good news always.

Marey, Ali, and all, Just a quick note to say hi, and let you all know that God has once again BLESSED us!!!!! Can you believe it, an AML suvivor that at diagnosis was told to "just forget about any plans you have on ever returning to soccer, and school will have to be completed on a homebound basis", now has a 7 yr. survival anniversary behind her and a BEAUTIFUL new healthy baby girl in her arms. Madison LeeAnn Ashley Alford was born on 10-1-06 after 3 days of fairly comfortable labor. She had to be induced 5-12 days early secondary to Keri developing Toxemia. Keri was considered to have been a normal, full term pregnancy, but she had to be followed by a nephrologist throughout to monitor her kidney fxn. and will undergo tests for the next yr. to see if there are any other problems with this. They need this information prior to another pregnancy!!!!!!!!!! It was fun visiting your site today just to see how every one was doing and brought many memories of SFMarathon back to Keri and I from last year. Keri and her freshman brother are talking about it for next year. I guess we'll see where that goes with the new baby, teaching, and 3 sports worth of coaching?????? A WHOLE new life has now begun!!!!!!!!!! SO SORRY about your niece, will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. I will have my husband send you some pics of Little Miss Madison, She's just unreal.

How great that the Talarico's made it to the Nike Marathon this year ... if I remember last year, Noelle decided she wanted a sleepover at the hospital just a couple of days before the run.
Wahoo to Clair and Tiffany for making it over the finish line in one piece. AND most especially wahoo for Noelle who ran the last bit with MOM. How awesome ... I'm expecting big news on her site soon.

Hi Marey and Ali--You signed my son, Jameson Howard's, guestbook a couple of weeks ago. I just wanted to say thank you...it's so nice to know that there are people out there thinking about and praying for my little man. When I came to your site today and read about your ride around Tahoe I was excited because I am from Northern California (Santa Rosa--born and raised around the area). In 2001 I moved to the Kansas City, MO area and met my husband and we had Jameson (the best day of our lives). Now we are staying here in North Carolina so that Jameson can be here with these wonderful doctors. Ali, you are beautiful and I am so happy that you are doing so well. May God conitnue to bless you. Hi, Marey and Ali,

Ali, I hated chemistry but loved biology, too. You're one up on me though - calculus wasn't required for my major and I stayed far away from it. Trig was hard enough!

Marey, I just finished writing to Dollar Tree and Gibson. Eric's sister told me awhile back that she had bought some inexpensive plates at a dollar store and few days later she was back at the store and saw a big sign by the plate display saying the plates contained something that could cause cancer. Of course she brought them back, but what if she'd never seen the sign? Very scary.

Love to all, Dawn

Hi Marey,
I can't believe that shops are actually sticking labels on their goods telling us they may cause cancer or other illnesses. I wrote to the Dollar Tree, they didn't ask where I live, so I guess they won't know I'm in Scotland, but the other site asks for zip codes etc, so I don't know if I'd be able to complain as I don't live in America.
Thanks for Dawns address, I sent the teddy. She has visited Kayla's page with was very nice of her, also she has e-mailed me.

Just found Ali's site. So good to hear the Praises of her treatments. Never enough of those. My daughter at 31yrs had AML and now 19 years later we are just praising God for His goodness ---But- we now have a 10 year old Granddaughter who was diagnosed with ALL in May of this year so we are going through the difficulties once again. So glad you are keeping Ali's site as it will help katelyn to know of the successes and not focus on the failures. 19 years later we still get concerned when Rose gets sick so once a Leukemia victum ,always one. The fear never truely goes away. It just hides and pops up in your heart when you least expect it. God Bless you and I will keep Ali in my daily prayers. katelyns MomMom

Marey,

Please don't even think about stopping Ali's site. You have no idea how much it's helped me to read about her this past year. Ali came OT just about the time Marielle was diagnosed. I see Ali, hear what she's up to and I have hope.

As you well know, the first year especially, it's so hard to hope. So hard to think of the future as something positive. Reading about your efforts at fundraising, Ali's freshman year at college, gave me hope, hope that my Marielle will someday be doing the same "normal" things that Ali is doing.

And, as you indicated, we all know that it's not over just because someone is OT. Is it ever really "over"?

Sorry to hear about the fender-bender. Ali, I hope your back is feeling better soon! Also glad to hear that the car survived. (Marey, I have a 15 year old car that I'm hoping will make it for another year, so I know how you feel!)It's good to hear that everything is going well otherwise.
All the best,

I'm so sorry about the buttinsky - but glad Ali wasn't hurt. And {{{Marey}}}, I know how hard the anniversary is - that date and those events are forever seared on your brain and we will always mourn the loss of our lives before cancer. Hugs to you my friend,

Just now getting a chance to stop by and sign your guestbook. Way to go! 4 years! Marey-your dx story brought back so many memories that are still so raw.

I hope Ali isn't too sore from the accident. I hate that happened.

We hope everyone is enjoying school and things are back to a normal schedule. We think of you often. :)

Hi Marey,

I was thinking of you and Ali today since Katie and Ali share the same dx day. It is so great to see Ali doing so well OT. Katie is also well. She is anxious to get on with starting Grade 1 and having a "normal" school year for a change.

Hi Marey~

Thinking of you on this day...ours is in just 5 days - 2 years ago. Reading your post is so familiar. From the 18th to the 31st it was like a nightmare. I remember too. I also remember when I found the ALL-kids list how supportive you always were and still are. You are such a wonderful example of strength and tenacity. You are always fighting for every child dealing with this awful disease. Always "rooting" and riding for the kids. I appreciate you very much. Thank you. I am so proud of your family for doing what you do! Ali~You have persevered! You are a beautiful girl and it is so wonderful to see where you are today...4 years after dx.

Much Love and Hugs!

Ali and Marey: it is great to hear that Ali is doing so well OT! I hope it lessens the sting of the diagnosis anniversary to know that she is done with treatment and moving on to better things. Good luck with school this year, both to the student and the teacher!

Marey: I am truly amazed with all that you have done and continue to do to raise funds for a cure for childhood cancer!

For most people, they remember September 11th and where they were when they heard the news, many remember the details of when they heard about the Challenger exploding or maybe, some of us old enough, remember President Kennedy being shot.

But for mom's of kids with cancer, there is only one day, one moment that is seared in our memories...D Day, Diagnosis Day, the day we heard our child has cancer. Our CHILD has CANCER.

Watching our world spin out of control. Reading, trying to grasp the meaning of words we'd never heard before, familiarizing ourselves with hospitals we'd never (or rarely) been to before.

Looking back, it does seem a bit surreal, doesn't it?

I'm so glad that Ali is doing so well. I know, also, that just because she's Off Treatment, you don't "forget" about it. I know the second looks, the thoughts that cross your mind when there is a pain or a cough....

Happy Crapiversary, Ali and Family...may the memories fade and may the word Survivor be all that remains of this journey.

So often when words are hard to find when praying, it helps to turn to the Psalms and pray the words found there.
Ps.70:1,5: Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD...But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.

Hi Ali, I came across you carepage through another. I saw that you went to Camp Okizu two years ago for the first week in August. My daughter Krysta (Luna was her camp name) was there that same week, or at least a part of it. She went a day late as she had an LP, stayed one day until she got the dreaded fever, was admitted to the hospital for three days and then back to camp for another day. She had a blast and said that all you girls were so fun and wishes she could have spent more time there. She had just turned 17 and was bald. She thinks she remembers who you are but wants to know your camp name to be sure. She finished chemo two weeks ago and is currently at Sac State.

Hi There and Welcome back! :) I love all the pictures you posted and it sure sounds like you all had a ton of well deserved fun in the sun in Hawaii! :) Wonderful! :)

My husband and I lived on Oahu for 3 years. It's such a beautiful place! Although we lived there for such a long time we never actually went to the Arizona Memorial. That is one thing I wish we would have done!

I sure hope Ali's back starts feeling better real soon!

...now I have to add to the entry below...Karen, who is pictured at the Relay in the collage, sorted cans and bottles FOR 24 HOURS! She bagged and carried over 100 pounds of cans and bottles- well there were WAY more pounds than that before we emptied all the water and soda that people threw away. So "Dumpster Diver for Cancer" is truly an honored title...she brought in $108.62!

And Karen is a multi-time cancer SURVIVER!

I ran across your link in pursuit of more information to help my child deal with the horrible effects ALL has had on her best friend. This poor child has exhausted every last thing there is to battle this cancer, and we are now down to weeks.

What took my breath away was the beautiful picture of your TNT team at Lake Tahoe. My 68 year young mother has been a part of TNT for over ten years now, and she and her first honoree rode together to celebrate his 10 years of remission. She has been a marathoner in the past, but chose to ride for this event. Now for the kicker...she cannot swim, but has chosen to do a triathlon next year. Did I mention that she had not been on a bike since she was teen? TNT is such a wonderful organization, and congrats to you and your team for all that you do to help find a cure!

Hey Marey,
I actually signed her up for the survivors lap yesterday. We probably won't stay the whole day but she definitely want's to do the survivors lap, we might even come back for the luminary ceremony. I haven't updated my page yet but I really want to thank you for praying for my mom, they are working! She had 50 to 75 percent tumor reduction.. even though the chemo only had a 10 percent chance of working its working.. So thank you for the prayers! Ali and your family are always in my prayers. I watched the documentary A lion in the house the other day and it reminded me about how amazing all the kids I know from Okizu are.. I know you must be very proud of her for what she has acomplished and very proud of Lex and Nolan too.. they are amazing siblings. I will be doing SIBS 4 and Onc 1 this year.. what week will they be going?

Hey all, CONGRATS on all the happenings in your household!!!!!!! I had to get on the computer today after picking Keri up from her flight in from Florida to look at info on pregnancy, kidneys, and DVT, as these are now in our questions withn Keri's Obstetrician. All is going well and Keri and baby Madison are growing as expected for this point in her pregnancy!!! We probably don't have enough suitcases to send all the clothes home with them that Arin and I have been collecting from yard sales and consignment stores in the past 4 months now!!!!!!!!! I can't imagine what else the 3 showers we have planned here will bring??? Keri's house is coming along well and the babies room got painted yesterday before thy left to come here. Just like your house it's been non stop here as well. No sooner than we got Relay over and helped Ben's middle school get 2nd in our small county in funds raised, we moved Arin back home from Georgetown and Ben graduated from 8th grade. The following weekend our 21 year old Israelie daughter in law officially graduated from the same HS our son did in 1999, the year before he left for his 6 yr stint in the Air Force where he met her. Last weekend we moved Arin back out and into her own apartment where she plans to stay for the next 3 years to attend the University of Louisville. She will be atrying out as a walk on for their wms soccer team in a couple and has just been asked to assist. coach at a local HS for both the girls and boys goalies! She has returned to her job at the local pizza rest. and is working there with her brother (Ronnie) and sister in law (Rana), at least for the time being. Ronnie will start a new computer repair job in August as a managerial member of the local "Geek Squad". God has once again answered many prayers around our house (these are just a few), as he has at yours!!!!!!! He is AWESOME!!!!!!! LOL to all, Teri & Crew

Hi all, Just a quick stop at you site to say GOOD LUCK on the ride, but mainly just wishing for LOTS of family fun!! We just finished our Relay for Life last weekend. Ben's 1st year Middle School Team beat their $3000.00 Goal by incorporating a student Mini Relay, which brought in another $3000.00. Our little but very supportive community met and exceeded their goal as well!!!! So did Keri's down in Clewiston!!! Keri is now 5 months along, with Little Miss Madison Leighann due to deliver in early October!!!!!!!! Can't wait!!!!!!!!WOW, what an UNBELIEVABLE BLESSING AND the Doctors are just in shock at how HEALTHY she is after being an AML survivor!!!!!!!!As Keri likes all to know 'LIFE GOES ON AFTER CANCER' AND IT CAN BE AS GLORIOUS AS YOU FIGHT FOR IT TO BE!!!!!!!!!!Well, all for now. May God continue to BLESS us ALL!!!!!!!!!

My goodness, I have such a hard time trying to keep up with all that is going on over there at your side of the pond. I'm so glad that everything is ok with Ali, you must have been terrified on that plane, worrying about her all the way home. Where you live sounds just like here, we get rain nearly everyday too, and it's still only 54 degrees, but that's about normal for us, even in summer we never get really hot weather if it reaches the 70's that's high for us. You did really well on that bike run, you must be super fit. I bet your mom felt so proud standing beside Nolan, didn't she?

Those plates are the best!! Happy Easter guys!

Dearest Friends, Family and Caring Bridge Support Teams.

I am sending out a request again for a wonderful family who once again has received the information that their little *Bryce*
has relapsed. This time it is during the first 3 months of his bone marrow transplant.

Bryce’s bone marrow has 95 percent donor cells (Mitchell, Bryce’s oldest brother who is 11) and 5 percent host cells (Bryce). The 5 percent of his bone marrow that is host cells has 5-10 percent blast cells in them. The blast cells are the cancer or Leukemia cells.

So now Mitchell will give Bryce a special blood transfusion called a Donor Lymphocyte Infusion. They are hoping his blood will attack Bryce's cells and eliminate them.

On Monday Mitch & Bryce will have blood work and special tests to make sure all is well to proceed. They want to be sure Mitchell has no virus’ and his veins need to be large enough to do Aphaeresis which is when a person donates blood from one arm, it is then spun down in a special machine to get the specific blood needed to prepare for the transfusion and then, the rest of his blood is put back into him in the other arm. If his veins are not large enough, they will put a PICC line into his neck.

The cells they need to use are white blood cells and his Helper T-cells. These will be used to help for engraftment of the donor cells and rejection of the host cells. This Aphaeresis will be done on Tuesday and then on Wednesday, Bryce will be admitted to St. Mary's Hospital to receive the infusion. Bryce will then have a bone marrow biopsy 3-4 weeks after that to check for engraftment, once again.

This family really needs your prayers. Please pray for Bryce, Mitchell and for this whole wonderfully kind family. Also, if you have a few minutes to spare in this fast passed world we live in, PLEASE take some time to stop and leave an uplifting or Spiritual message in their guestbook. No one could really explain how helpful these pages are and most importantly they are only a click away the moments we NEED them the most! At Rochester they have computers in the waiting rooms on every floor. Sometimes on our most feared appointments with Sierra, I would open up her page and read her guestbook while I was waiting and it gave me strength!

Sierra and I were guests at a Cancer Seminar Saturday and they had many wonderful speakers. One of the speakers who was a counselor talked about we always want to do something or we will say “call us if you need anything” then we wonder why they don’t call. One great thing he mentioned was meals, which is always awesome because your family still needs to eat even though you just get back from appointments 2 min before someone says “I’m hungry”. But unfortunately we are not always close to where they live. Another thing he mentioned is just sitting quietly and “holding their hand”.

I have always considered these pages a wonderful, strengthening beautiful “hand hold or hug” that a family can “receive” whenever they really need it.

Lots of CB ((((Hugs)))) and ++++Prayers++++ to you and your family every moment of the day!

Sierra’s Mommy *Missy Sierra*

God Speed!

Jelly beans & Jesus

Have you heard the story of the jelly beans?

Little jelly beans
Tell a story true.
A tale of our Father's love
That's just for me and you.

GREEN is for the new spring grass.
YELLOW is for the sun above.
BROWN is for the soft earth where
People sat hearing of HIS love.

PURPLE'S for the robe he wore
RED is for that precious wine.
BLACK is for the sins He washed
From your soul and mine.

BLUE'S for the sadness of
HIS friends and family,
and is for the glory of the Day
HE rose for you and me.

Now that you've heard the story
You know what each color means.
The story of our Father's love
As told by jelly beans.
So when you see jelly beans on this Easter season,
stop and remember,
Jesus is the reason!

"For God so loved the world, He gave His One and Only Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

John 3:16

Wishing you and yours Easter Blessing's

THE JELLY BEAN PRAYER

Red is for the blood He gave.
Yellow is for His son so bright.
Black is for the sins we made.
Purple is for His hours of sorrow.
Green is for the grass He made.
Orange is for the moon at night.
White is for the grace He gave.
Pink is for our new tomorrow.

A bag full of jellybeans,
Colorful & sweet,
Is a prayer, Is a promise, Is a small treat.
Remember Jesus when you eat the jellybeans.

Praying for you,

I just have to know, what kind of protein does that boy eat??? Do you use Ali's old treatment paraphanalia, left-over IV's and needles, to inject BOOST or ENSURE directly into his veins? Because he is the tallest kid I've ever seen!!! :)

CONGRATS on the basketball win, and I hope Disneyland is a wonderful time for all of you. Best of luck to his team in the game --- happy belated birthday to Ali, as well. Your DOD suggestion made me giggle. And around here, we could totally get away with it, since DOD stands for Department of Defense and the kids' dad is military ... no-one would know what we were talking about!
