I remember being in fourth grade with a little dark haired boy. :) I remeber him being the sweetest thing ever, and he always managed to make me smile :) but what I remember most of that year is my teacher Mrs. Dillard coming and telling me that he had cancer. Then another day she came and told us that he was coming to visit. so I stayed during recess to see him. Looking back now I see how strong he was, but then all I could think about was how lucky he was to get to wear a hat in the building. I dont remember how but I got a picture of Brandon with a link to this site, and every once in a while I will look at it and remember the little brown haired boy. But I never once came here to see how he was doing and now I regret it. Brandon was the sweetest and he will always be remebered. Tonight my tears are of joy that he is with the Lord and are of sorrow for your loss. I pray that you have peace and remember Brandon for who he was. He was and always will be special.

Happy Birthday Anniversary, Brandon.
Let you light shine for all to see!
You're smile is what I see when I think of you; plus you being that amazing, valiant Warrior.

I am holding you and your family close in my heart and prayers today. Mom posted a link to a really neat song and I sure thank her for doing that. She's the best!

I love you, Mr. Buddy.

I still stop and check on you! Everytime I do, I remember walking into the room in San Antonio, for the first time, and that young man of yours sitting there playing video games with that big smile on his face, i thought to myself, how can he be smiling? Don't think i every saw him without that big smile. Thats how I remember Brandon!

I know how difficult Mother's Day is for those whose child is in Heaven. This poem has been a blessing for me as I hope it will be for you

You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes & pray that he'll come back,
Or you can open your eyes & see all that he's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,
Or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow & live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember him only that he is gone,
Or you can cherish his memory & let it live on.
You can cry & close your mind, be empty & turn your back,
Or you can do what he'd want:
Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

God's Lent Child
I'll lend you for a little while a child of mine, God said,
For you to love him while he lives, and mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years, or forty-two or three;
But will you, till I call him back, take good care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief,
You'll have the lovely memories as a solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return;
But there are lessons taught below I want this child to learn.
I've searched the whole world over, for teachers kind and true;
And from the throngs that crowd life's lane I have chosen you...
Now will you give him all your love? Nor think the labor pain?
Nor hate me should the angels call, to take this child back again?
To which the parents did reply...
Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joys thy child will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may...
for all the love this child will bring,
forever grateful we will stay.
But should the Angels call for him,
much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
and try to understand.

Please know that I am thinking about you during this holday season. I would like to share this special prayer with you.

Dear Father who art in Heaven...
Please join our family on this Thanksgiving day
And bless each one as we sit down to pray
As we remember those who have joined You above
So dearly missed and deeply loved.

Please provide us strength on this Thanksgiving day
Bless us with memories of those faraway...
Please grant patience to family and friends as we grieve
And help us reach out to others who are bereaved.

We give thanks to You on this Thanksgiving day....
For Your presence in our lives each and everyday.
For Your comfort, guidance, and never ending love...
And for taking care of our loved ones...in Heaven above.

As we light this candle on this Thanksgiving day...
And it glows in memory of those in Heaven today....
May their lights always shine down on us and give us light...
And may we feel their presence along with Yours tonight.

May the peace and tranquility of this Thanksgiving day
Be an everlasting light within each of us along the way...
Lets bow our heads and give our Thanks to God above..
For our blessings, whether on earth or in Heaven above...
Amen

Dear Brandon, i am writting you today so that you know Mr. Gino and I are thinking of you. Not sure if you were there holding nevaehs hand on her memorial, but as we sat on the front row in the church we looked up only to find the penny you left, face up and looking straight at us. For that penny gave us a moment of peace to know that you might be watching over her until we can be there to take care of her. Brandon Thank You.....

Thank you for your thoughtful entry on my son's site. I am so sorry that your son lost his battle too. How brave our Warriors were...now they have their wings and can watch over many of us at once. We will forever miss them, but we will forever speak of them which will keep them alive and here with us. Cancer can't take their beautiful memory. May God help all of us who have lost our sunshine, and bring his healing to those who are stricken with it. I see that you know Elijah & Chase? The Caringbridge family brings me much peace.

When I decided to drop in on Brandon's website, I didn't realize how close it was to his anniversary of going to heaven. Although I never met him, I just thought Brandon was the coolest kid. I always loved the picture of him jumping on the trampoline, and I also loved seeing his daily Star Wars stuff (the trivia questions from one of his faithful prayer warriors). He knew so much about Star Wars, it was incredible! I've never liked that kind of stuff, but loved to see how Brandon enjoyed it. He was a special little boy. I'm thankful that I was lucky enough to be one of his prayer warriors, and to get to "know" him through his journey. I still pray for all of you. God bless....

I was thinking about Brandon the other day and how you asked for people to leave their memories about him. The one that keeps coming to me is the first time I ever saw Brandon. You all lived on Ohio and the only one of the kids that I had meet was Sav (at the guys softball game), I came over to the house to pick up some stuff that I had got from a passion party. Well right as I walked in the door, Brandon came running out of the bathroom after having a shower, he was heading to his room and all I saw was a naked little booty running down the hall. I was embarassed but Brandon was fine with it. I thought it was so cute that he really didn't care. That is the cutest memory that I have of him. He was so care free and loving. Hope this brings a smile to your face. You know that I am here anytime you need anything.

Hey! Thanks for the message on Kale's page. I had some time to myself (shock!) last night and decided to take a few minutes and read back through the beginning of Kale's journey. While reading that, I came across an entry I made that requested prayers for Brandon and then one that requested prayers for ya'll...and all that reminded me that you have a hard anniversary coming up. With all that said, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers...I know this time must be tough. I am happy to read you are focusing on the positive and will be praying that God has His plan set on providing you an amazing little blessing.

I remember the first time we met Brandon and Jordan. Brandi and Robert had just started dating and we were going camping over the weekend. Of course I was excited cause I was going to be a new Grandma. While camping the boys wanted to roast marshmallows, the only problem was Brandon liked roasting them he just wouldn't eat them. After eating almost the whole bag myself I hid them and the new bag I had too. I found out real quick what you have to go through to be a Grandma. And through the years it's just got better and better. Even though he wasn't mine by blood Brandon and Jordan have always been ours. I'm just so proud Kathy and Ernie felt the same way.

I was blessed to know Brandon for a very short time, however, the time will be etched in my heart forever. He always made me smile. He always made sure I had my "Style" on. I too had blue hair for him. When I told him I would do blue hair with him he said "But you are old!" I told him that I would redefine blue haired old lady. The blue hair has made some many people smile. Brandon is continuing his legacy for making others smile regardless of the circumstances.

Brandon loved talking to me when I was pregnant. Once Lizzie was born he loved talking to me about her and just watching her. Brandon had so much life no matter what he was going through. He was such a wonderful, intelligent, young man. An ANGEL!!

I also remember that Brandon was so excited to go back to school.

Please delete the last one. I was mulitasking and miss spelled a word! *hugs*

It's crazy how life works, cause I met Brandon about 2 weeks before I met you. I was sitting outside Anthony's class room, waiting for school to get out. Michael was about 18 months old and was driving me crazy. He was up and down the side walk, then he would come sit and off he would go again. Brandon came and sat next to me. He must have eaten cheetos, beacuse the Cheetos were all over his fingers and hands and his teeth. I only noticed the teeth because Brandon had the smile of an ANGEL! (That was my exact thought,at that exact moment) as I saw him smile! He asked "what's his name" I told him, and he began simple conversation with me. I remember thinking...what a great kid! There was something angelic about him. I later found out that you guy's lived 2 doors down and he had cancer. I saw him many times after that day, running down the street with his toy guns, driving his new motorized scooter, or he would just stop and say..."Hi Miss Anna". He was a great kid!

One of the memories that I remember was when he dyed his hair blue and we all went and ate at Dixie Cafe. It was so awesome how he was so care free. He was always the nicest and sweetest little boy. It was so cute how he reminded me so much of you(Kathy).

I remember Brandon's smile and how mature he was. One day me and Mike watched the kids for Kathy and Ernie,and Brandon was laying on the couch talking to me. It was funny because he was like a little adult! I remember one day I came over to visit and he had just dyed his hair blue (or green). It had been awhile since I had seen him last and he ran over and gave me this big bear hug! He was just a really sweet kid, and he is truly missed!

I have a lot of memories of Brandon. But everytime I think of him I remember him sitting in your van when you'd pick up the kids. I would look for the van when I pulled up to the school, and if I missed it I'd hear his sweet voice saying Mrs. Jamie come look! He'd always have something to tell me or show me! He was such a sweet loving little boy!

I remember taking the boys camping with my parents, and we all were roasting marshmellows. Brandon didn't want to eat them but he loved roasting them. So when he got done roasting one he would say "here Grandma Carol" and he would hand it to her. After him feeding them to my mother all night my Mother said, "ok guys we need to hide the marshmellows, I am getting sick off of these." She ended up eating like a 1/4 of the bag that night. It was so funny. He had a blast but he didn't want to eat them.

Kathy,
I have many fond memories of Brandon, but the one that shines in my mind is at the Light the Night walk, I believe in Fall, 2006. Brandon walked with me the whole way, talking the entire time! What a social sense he had! He was so sweet the all the way around the park. At the end of the walk, there was a little dog to be given away, and Brandon wanted that dog sooooo much! When the name was drawn, it wasn't Brandon's, and he was pretty sad. Imagine how his sadness turned into joy when there was another dog that needed a home, and it was given to Brandon!!! His kind and caring way touched the heart of the woman who owned the dogs, and she wanted to make Brandon happy. He was ecstatic! I asked him what he would name his new puppy - such a tiny little thing! - and he said, "I've decided to let Savannah name her." What an unselfish spirit he had. I marveled at how sweet he was to his younger brother and sister. I'm thankful to have known him and all of you!
Much love,

Kat,
Remember when Papaw & Granny came to the house, Brandon was prob about 1 1/2. Papaw held out his arms and said come to papaw. Brandon ran to Pop (dad) and let papaw know that this was his Pop. After that he called Papaw, PeePop. The look on that childs face when he ran to Pop. POP LOVED IT.
Brandon was his little man.
Love You

Kathy-This is hard. You ask for a favorite memory, just one? Well, the first one that comes to mind was Brandon initiating me into the family, into "aunthood". I was about 17 yrs old,Phillip and I weren't married yet. Brandon was just a few months old and I was so excited because he was the first baby to be born since I had been "in the family" (Holly was 1 1/2). I remember sitting on Pop and Gran's couch, holding the most beautiful baby boy I had ever seen, chubby rolls and sparkling brown eyes. We were laughing and playing and all of a sudden, he SPEWED all over me! Being young and not around babies much at that time, I was completely stunned and didn't have a clue what to do next. So I started yelling "get him kathy, get him!" and of course, your response was to laugh hysterically and make fun of me. All the while, Brandon just looked at me, still happy as could be-probably trying to figure out what the excitement was about. I really miss those brown eyes, the way they actually smiled with the rest of his face......

Hi Kathy,
one of my memories of Brandon is when I visited him on Gold one day. He had just completed a small helicopter model. He told me about "another one in the gift shop" and convinced me within a minute or so that he NEEDED it and asked me to get it for him. :) He was so talented and quick with those type of things! :)

A memory that comes to mind is the first time i heard Brandon say his first "bad" word. He loved the movie Men In Black. At the beginning of the movie a bug splatters on the windshield and in the movie as well as from Brando's mouth comes the words "oh Sh_t". I remember you, me, and pop turning toward him, our eyes wide and all of us crackin up in laughter. Brandon had now idea he had caused it; he just turned and laughed with us.

I remember my first encounter with the "Memorial Tree" at Methodist. We had just been in San Antonio for 2 days getting the tour of the hospital before being admitted and when we were explained the purpose and meaning of the "Memorial Tree" my heart sunk. In 2003 there were not that many "Leaves" on the tree but each year when we went for check ups there were more and more leaves". February 28, 2008, when we went for a check up with Dr. Wall, we went past the "memorial tree" and my heart skipped a beat, the tree was full of "leaves" I was so heart broken to stand there and look at all the names of the poor children who had earned their "leaves" I pray every night and every day for the Lord to spare our children from this pain and missery and fight. I counted the names on the "leaves" at methodist that day and next year when we return I pray there are no new names added.

It's been a while since I've visited here, but I think about you all a lot. I miss Brandon, too. I will keep his pictures up in my room - the one of him at Sea World and the one as a Jedi, as well as the pictures he painted for me. His smile is the best!!! Yep, you could always see it in his eyes. It was wonderful to see you in San Antonio! I hope everything is progressing with your upcoming surgery! Please let me know when you'll be in town - I'd love to see you again.

Kat, you and your family are some of the strongest people I know. I am Soo blessed to be apart of the family and only wish I had as much strength and confidence as you yourself carry.
There is not a day goes by I dont think of you all, and wish I could spend more time with you. I have learned alot from you and Brandon about strength and perseverence and now try to look at things in a more positive way.
I Love you all and pray that somehow, someday soon things will get easier. Give the kids a BIG hug and kiss for me and know that I am always here and love you.

Hello Kathy and family,

I am glad you are coping. God has an answer for all our questions. I am sure Bradon is not suffering any more. I remember he told me that he wanted to go to Heaven. I prented as if didn't hear him. I wish I did!! I am still at Wilford Hall. Good luck with your surgery and hopefully all went well. Don't forget to stop by. I had a new baby girl about 8 months ago. Your story has tourched me so much and I think of Brandon often. My mother is battling pancreatic cancer. Again your story keeps me going.
I miss you all. Good luck.

Kathy, I just wanted to let you know I still check on ya'll and appreciate the updates. I realize I didn't actually know Brandon, but I loved him so much! It was so funny when he decided he wanted to be called Tyler instead of Brandon. And that boy knew his Star Wars trivia! I thought that was cool, even though I don't like Star Wars.

Now, as far as you not being able to say the "D" word, that's not a bad thing. Think about it.. maybe there's another reason you can't say it. Maybe God is telling you not to say it. In reality, Brandon did not die.. he simply passed away from this earth, but he is alive and well in Heaven. As God's word tells us, Jesus died so we could live, and Brandon is now living like a king, with THE KING!

Thanks again for the updates. Congrats on your new house and good luck on the new baby. Love and prayers......

The Spirit of April
By: Mary E Linton ©

I am the Spirit of April.
Did you not hear me come?
Violets nod in the meadow;
See, I have brought you some.
I opened your gate so gently,
Fearing to make you start;
I bring you a note of gladness
Out of the song in my heart.

We little knew that morning that God was going to all your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

It's so weird how Kiala and Brandons birthdays where so close together. I miss Brandon too! I know I only knew him a short time, but it only took him a short time to build a place in someones heart. I pray for you and your family daily. I wish I could see you again before I leave. I'm going to Olive Garden Friday, and I'll be thinking of you!

Looking right with love. May the force be with you and your family as Brandon watches over you guys daily. I just read your post on AF Crossroads and so wanted to come and check out the video montage.

What a great way to celebrate his life while he was here with you all. You did a knock-out job. :) Sending you all white light to keep on keeping on, even when it seems hard at times.

Brandon- keep the force coming! ;)

TAKE MY HAND

I cannot ease your aching heart,
Nor take your pain away,
But let me stay and take your hand
And walk with you today.

I'll listen when you need to talk,
I'll wipe away your tears,
I'll share your worries when they come,
I'll help you face your fears.

I'm here and I will stand by you,
Each hill you have to climb.
So take my hand, let's face the world,
Live one day at a time.

You're not alone, for I'm still here...
I'll go that extra mile.
And when your grief is easier,
I'll help you learn to smile!

Greetings! I just love the photo!

A Gentle Hug

A gentle hug is wonderful,
It sends a message clear;
That someone truly cares for you
And they are ever near.

No matter how much loneliness
Pervades your inner soul,
A gentle hug is well received;
It carries such a glow.

Your inner heart is warmed again
By the light of another's touch;
A gentle hug reaches out
And means so very much.

Let another's needs be filled
By a gentle hug thus given;
Warm their heart with your love,
Share a bit of heaven.

Gentle hugs filled with care
Are encouraged day by day;
Heal your heart and another's, too,
Give a gentle hug away.

i hope you do get into nursing school. i am a pediatric lpn the first half of the week and a hospice nurse the last half of the week. i have learned over the few years ive been an lpn that it really does help ease pain when you help ease others. you can relate to them and help them through a tough and terrible time in their lives. the pain will probably never go away but you learn to live with and you adjust your life around it.but that only means your love for him never dies. i wish you well on nursing school (its hell, trust me) but it is worth it. take care of yourself and happy new year

Another Year for Thee

Another year is dawning!
Dear Master, let it be,
In working or in waiting,
Another year with Thee!

Another year of leaning
Upon Thy loving breast,
Of even deeper trusting,
Of quiet, happy rest.

Another year of mercies,
Of faithfulness and grace;
Another year of gladness,
In the shining of Thy face.

Another year of progress,
Another year of praise;
Another year of proving
Thy presence "all the days."

Another year of service,
Of witness to Thy love;
Another year of training
For holier work above.

Another year is dawning!
Dear Master, let it be,
On earth, or else in heaven,
Another year for Thee!

My name is Susan Villareal and I am the mother to Jordan Villareal who is a patient of Dr. Becton. Jordan wad dx with JMML in 2003 and we also spent several months at San Antonio getting transplant as well. I just recently came across Brandon's web site and was saddened to hear of his death. I remember seating across from you guys at ACH in clinic several times but with everything going on with Jordan I never did introduced myself. I am so sorry for the loss of Brandon. The picture with the wings is "wonderful" I wish 2008 to be a year of joy and happiness for you and your family. Congrats on your new job and I wish you joy and happiness. We are planning another trip to San Antonio in February to see Dr. Wall for yearlyl check up. I am truly sorry and regret deep in my heart that I never introduced myself to you and Brandon during clinic. Clinic always made me nervous and honestly my mind was not on meeting people in clinic it was just waiting for the lab results and what Dr. Becton had to tell us before I regained my sense of thought for the day. May the lord bless you and your family with a wonderful 2008 and may he also bless you with many many beautiful and wonderful dreams of Brandon for one day you will be with your precious angel again. I know he is waiting for the day as well so that he can show you all around heaven.

May you have a wonderful day

Kathy,
Thank you so much for keeping Brandon's page updated. I love the picture history of him, and the songs on it. I bought a CD with Iz singing Over the Rainbow. It was one of Gina's (Frederickson) favorite songs, too! His wings look perfect in the top picture. When will the headstone be placed? It looks wonderful. You all are often in my prayers. I'm looking forward to hearing about your job!
Love,
