I miss you so much!! There are many times during the day or week that something will happen and I'll think to reach for my phone to call my big sister. I miss our talks, I miss the way you ALWAYS understood me, I miss your sound advice, and most of all I miss you.

There's a hole that will never be filled and your fingerprints are everywhere in my life. I see your imprint on many things and wish so bad that you could be here to enjoy them.

I'm convinced that you've gone before us to help design what God has in store for each of us. As I enter Heaven, I suspect that you'll be there to take my hand and show me the way. Until then, put a good word in for me.....I could use a little help down here!!

I love you,
Mark

Dear Curtis and family,

This message is from Amy(Holaway)Davis...I thought I'd best identify myself since it's been such a long time. My heart certainly goes out to all of you. I know you have traveled a long road through the course of Marsha's illness. It seems God equips us to just press on daily through such difficult times, doing what needs to be done the best way we know how. I first learned of Marsha's illness over the summer from my cousin. You may know, or not, but my father's brother just passed away from the same brain tumor mother had -- glioblastoma multiforme IV. His daughter is the one that told me about Marsha's website here on caringbridge. I grieve with you all, as no amount of preparation takes away the sorrow that comes when we are separated from our loved ones. I praise God right along with you all for the comfort and great hope that He gives us. I remember mother singing "Hold on my child, joy comes in the morning..." It is also hard to forget the hymn we've all sung many times that says "When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! When we all see Jesus, we'll sing and shout the VICTORY!" Praise God there is victory over death, sin and all the struggles of this world. I am reading Randy Alcorn's "Heaven" now in a Bible study group, and it is such an amazing perspective on the New Earth. Perhaps one day reading it will bring joy to you. I pray you and your family feel God's great love for you continually as you press on through this time. And by the way, from the picture of you and Marsha on the site, neither of you had changed a bit since I last saw you "forever-ago!" Your children are beautiful.

Much love,
Amy

Curtis, while words are so inadequate, I do want you to know that your family have been in my prayers often during the past two years. There have been days when I felt a strong sense of your need and offered those needs to Him. Know that the many who love you and your family will continue as prayer warriors as adjusting, accepting, and continuing to love occurs. Isn't it great knowing that God is all-knowing and that He is able to keep that which we've committed to Him!!!

Dear Curtis,
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you since hearing of Marsha's passing last Friday while we were in Dallas making plans for a MAGYAR move. Your tribute to her on her website was incredible and all of it so true. What a happy, positive, loving person Marsha was to all who met and knew her. The framed hymn you gave us when we left Twelfth Street still hangs in our home as a reminder of our friendship with both of you. Marsha "fought the good fight and finished the race" and followed the words of that hymn, "Wherever He Leads, I'll Go" Her life and love for her Lord will continue to inspire us as we make our journey to be a part of the Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, TX where Chuck Swindoll is pastor. We will let you know when we have a new address, etc.............
Much love to you, Matthew, Lindsay and the Morrison family,

Mighty Clouds of Joy

Marsha, Curtis, Brandon and I all sang in a choir group one summer at Twelfth Street Baptist Church. Marsha was the singer. Brandon played the drums. Curtis played an instrument and I sang with the choir group. It was a new experience for me because I was a member of St. James Catholic Church, squeezing in two services on Sunday, one at my church and one at Twelfth St., and choir practice almost 24/7 to get ready for Washington D.C. We were going to sing to the "world" that summer and speak about the wonderful life as a Christian. There was only one issue, I had never stood before a church and gave a testimony. So I watched others and listened to how they presented themselves when we visited churches till we reached Washington D.C.
We had a great time. We really touched peoples lives. Each church was so happy to see us and they had so much prepared for us when we arrived. When we arrived in Washington D.C.we were so excited! I will never forget when we all sang on the steps at the Capital while Senators, Congressmen, and visitors stopped to hear us sing.

When we got home we were getting ready to sing to the church and talk about our experiences. Rev. Morrison asked me if I would give a personal testimony with some of the other kids. I was scared, nervous, and very shy back then. I quickly went to Marsha for help. My question was, "Marsha I was baptized when I was born. As a Catholic what do I say? "Marsha was always honest with me. Not once did she ask me to change churches. Her father was always very kind to me and would always tell me I would be welcomed anytime to his church.

When it was time to sing Marsha sang a song about "The Mighty Clouds of Joy." I use to imagine I could sing that song knowing it was out of my range. It was that beautiful. She told me to speak from my heart and if that was when I was saved, then speak about it. When it was my turn to speak I felt like the whole church went totally silent waiting to hear what I had to say. And then it happened... I spoke from my heart and I told my story as a Christian and what it meant to me. Later Marsha said "I did great."
Life was so good back then. We were living some of the best days of our lives.

As the years pasted I slowly lost some of my beliefs. I had forgotten about our trip and the wonderful spiritual experiences because I was so consumed in my problems. I knew Marsha was sick, but I did not know she was dying. When I read about the services in the paper I began to remember that summer. As I read what Marsha had to say it touched me so that I began to feel so disappointed in myself for wasted years of thinking of my silly problems. Marsha was not only a Christian but a beautiful one at that. Reading her words restored so much in me that I had forgotten.

Marsha is someone that will never be forgotten. Now when I take time to thank God each day for all of His many blessings, I will also thank Marsha for leaving us a message in her own words in the paper. The Mighty Clouds of Joy came rolling in again through a beautiful person we will all miss.

Remembering You Always Marsha,

Jean Marie Tow Roberson

Mr. Burttram, Matthew, and Lindsey, I am so sorry to hear about Marsha. Mother has kept me informed. I can't say that I understand the loss of a spouse, but I have lost a parent. It's a terrible loss to us, but a wonderful gain for them. Just remember that she's watching you from above now. You are in my prayers. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do. Marsha was such a delightful lady. She always had that sweet, sweet, spirit that made it so evident that she lived her life for the Lord. It was my pleasure to have known her. I sincerely appreciate the work that you did at GHS and the support that Marsha gave to all of us. I know you will be comforted in knowing that she is now with the Lord.

Hello Curtis and all the family,
What a wonderful sevice and also what a wonderful reunion. There were so many people who came to the visitation and service; students and friends of Marsha; students and friends of Curtis, and family....As great a reunion as it was, it is nothing compared to the reunion that is to come. And it will come.

We are still here for you.

God Bless You!

Dear Curtis, Matthew, Lindsey, Bro. and Mrs. Morrison, Mark, Anneice, Megan, Mallory, and Meredith,

How do people who are not Christians do this? How do they face the pain and loss with no hope? There are no words that can be said that will relieve the terrible grief you feel right now. But thank Heaven you don't grieve as those who have no hope. You can continue to rest in the knowledge that GOD IS GOOD AT ALL TIMES AND IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES, and in total trust in Him, have that perfect peace that passes understanding.

For me, the most vivid memories of Marsha are back at Twelfth Street in choir. She mesmerized me every time she sang "Those Mighty Clouds of Joy" and it is with joy I will remember her, because that is what she gave to everyone she met. I'm so sad such a beautiful light has left this world. I'll never understand it. I guess God just needed her up there to liven things up a little. But she left so much of her light with others, hers will never be extinguished.

We have prayed for Marsha and all of you every day for two years, and we won't stop now. We pray that you can truly feel His presence and experience His promise that He will never leave you or forsake you. God bless you all.

Love,

Curtis, Matt and Lindsey,
Your family has been such an inspiration to us. When Ben was going through his cancer, I would sit back and watch you all deal with Marsha's in such a positive way. I would think back on that from time to time and that's what got me through a lot of long days. The closeness of your family is a true testament of the "Love" Marsha had for you. I want to tell you it is alright for you to cry for her anytime you want. I wished we could bind up your broken hearts and take away the pain. You are in our prayers.

Such a beautiful service today...just like Marsha would have wanted. I know she was watching. Marsha gave us all a marvelous gift--the gift of confidence in knowing that we will all see her again--the gift of having been blessed by knowing her and by being loved by her. I will miss her tremendously but I have wonderful memories that will last a lifetime! She touched us all in special ways and we will continue to be touched when we see her life being lived out through Matthew and Lindsey. We are all better for having known Marsha and as was said today, "To know Marsha was to love her."

As Dr. Trader has said several times during one of his sermons at 12th Street, "Joy Comes in the Morning," and the joy of Marsha's life and the joy of Jesus was very present as we celebrated the life of Marsha Burttram today. It was a time of worship as her favorite songs were sung and played, as Marsha's love for Jesus was expressed thru personal experiences of someone's life she touched and the beauty of her humor shared. Billy and I shared tears - tears of sadness because we will miss her and also tears of
a blessed day because she is no longer suffering but resting in the arms of Jesus. We can only imagine what it will be like when we walk by His side. Marsha is smiling and walking by His side. Yes, Joy comes in the Morning.

As I stood in line at visitation I saw literally hundreds of people, some I knew, most I did not know. It occurred to me that there would be no way humanly possible to know the many lives touched by Marsha, nor how many made life changes or accepted Jesus because of encounters with her. But one thing I know for sure, God knows, and He has probably been showing her how many people she won to the Lord and all the good that her life meant to so many. If we could catch a glimpse of that inventory we too, would be changed. What a wonderful life!

Curtis, Matt, Lindsay

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I had the joy of working with Marsha for just a short time. She was just around the corner of my classroom while she was the director of extended day at AAMS. She would often walk over during my planning period and we would just talk- about many things- but mainly about Matt and Lindsay. I had taught Lindsay in 8th grade so she was our common thread. Since I had a daughter as well, we would talk about the world of high school, and what Lindsay was going through then and what my daughter, Kaitlyn, would soon be going through. She was always positive and encouraging about her career, her children, her husband, just life in general. I was saddened when she decided to leave her job, but was devastated when, not long after she left, she was diagnosed with cancer. I know this has been a long road; however, I just wanted you to know what an impact she made on me in just the short time I was fortunate enough to know her.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I have just returned home from Gadsden tonight. During the time that I was standing in line, all I could think about and hum was "My Tribute" which I always thought of as Marsha's song. And man, what a tribute tonight was to the Burtrams, Morrisons and extended families. It was my honor to see Marsha's smile come through both Matt and Lindsey. The choirs in Heaven have a distinctively better tone tonight and I know that as Marsha praises our Saviour and Redeemer, she was also looking down at her precious family with that same beautiful smile. May Jesus hold her close tonight and forever more.

Matt and all the family,

For the short time I worked with Marsha I was impressed by three things. Her smile, her inner joy, and mostly, the love she had for her family. She praised and bragged about all of you. She was so very proud of all of you and in love with her husband. So many times people complain about their family, she did not. She loved you all unconditionaly. How blessed we all were to know her! My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Curtis, Matthew and Lindsay,

Mark Thompson and I have just read the Funeral Journal and our hearts were so touched and saddened at the same time. We will both miss Marsha so much. Your family is such a blessing to so many people. Your family has touched so many lives for so many years with the students that have been in the bands and the classes that were taught by Marsha. She gives us all more hope to live a better life than we have in the past knowing that she was always an encourager for everyone to better themselves.

We are just so sad that we are out of town this week. We both wanted to attend the funeral as we know it will be a wonderful celebration. Our prayers are with you today and always. We love you, Malanta Knowles and Mark Thompson from Las Vegas, Nevada

Dear Curtis, Matthew and Lindsey,
When I think of Marsha, I think of the Bible's description of beauty which is an "unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight" (I Peter 3:4). She was every bit as beautiful on the inside and she was on the out.
I smile when I think of how sweet she always was to JM and how she got such a big kick out of him.
You know we're just a phone call away if there is anything you need.
We love you!!

Dear Curtis,
It was with great sadness and many tears that we received word of Marsha having succumbed in her fight to remain and be with you. I imagine you are extremely tired from your part of the struggle and feel in a small way a sense of release and peace for her. But, i know that there awaits a terribly dark void and questions beyond measure that can shake you to the core of your very being. In that regard, if you so desire, i will try to provide the comfort that i was comforted with to find the answers that i had to be shown and the stability, safe harbor, that i had to be anchored into to survive.

The world will be void of of a one of those whom the Lord gave great love and compassion and "if it were in this life alone we had hope we would be most misrable", but you do not and for that reason you have drawn a step closer to heaven than most because of the longing that will be birthed in you.

Our empathy goes out to you at this time,

Good morning and Merry Christmas guys,
Last week when I went to sit down in the chair in the computer room, I was reminded of Marsha's warm, kind, and caring heart. I still have the little accent pillow with the ole' steam locomotive that matches perfectly (Marsha's wonderful decorating gift). I think that was God reminding me to say a prayer for your family that day. Mitzi and I will always cherish that little train pillow. We'll be praying for yall today.
With much love, Gary and Mitzi

Curtis---Your post of 12/23 is yet another example of what an amazing family you have, and how well all of you have handled Marsha's illness. It is a testimony to both Marsha and you that you have raised a family that can deal with so difficult a situation with the faith and grace that all of you have shown. You have all been such an inspiration to me and countless others over the last two years. Our prayers are constantly with all of you. Marsha, Curtis, and Kids:

Not a day goes by without you on my mind or in my prayers. I would like for you to know, Marsha, that you have made me the teacher that I am today. If you had not been the wonderful, caring, strong person that you are I would not have made it this far. I must say, my favorite bit of teaching advice you ever gave me was this, "If you ever do not know something - Make it up! They don't know the difference!" I have lived and loved by this! I love you!

Curtis,
Still keeping all of you in our thoughts and prayers. Having gone thru it with both my mom and dad, I know what a difficult time this is for all of you. If there is ANYTHING at all that I can do--bringing food, running errands, sitting with sweet Marsha--or anything else, please don't hesitate to ask. The strength and courage of Marsha, and of your whole family, has been such an inspiration to more people than you will ever know. I am praying especially for peacefulness for Marsha and continued strength for all of you.

That same awesome God that gave that beautiful sunrise for me to see this mroning is the same God who is holding you in the palm of His hand. Isn't that a wonderful thought that the God who spoke this world into exsistance cares enough about you that He is sitting right there holding you in His hands.

My heart is sad and reaches out to each of you during this time. Marsha, even though I might not have the opportunity to visit you, I know that "ANGELS" are surrounding your bed and the love that has been expressed by so many people over the past two years is a witness in itself. What a wonderful person you have always been and such an example for young and old. I have never met your children but I have heard so many great things about them and I know that they have the wonderful qualities from their mom and dad. My love goes out to you and I am always willing to be there if you need something from me. God Bless You and hold you in His loving arms.

Hey Marsha,
Just checking in to let you know we're still praying for you. I hope you are feeling well.

I guess Curtis is back in school. We had a week of preparation this week and our students start Monday at Donoho. I think it will be a great year for us.

Please put two friends of mine on your prayer list (and everyone who reads this, please do the same). My friend Henry has been in the hospital since the first of July when he had surgery and they ran into complications. He is now in rehab, but has lost about 90 lbs. and is very weak. Also, my friend Sandra who is a teacher slipped & broke her knee cap yesterday going into the school & had to have surgery. She had planned to retire, but they talked her into staying one more year. She is a great teacher and I'm sure she'll get the job done even on crutches.

I'll talk to you later. Keep on keepin' on!!!

Hey Marsha,
Hope you are having a great day. Linda & I just got back from a week long trip with the junior high youth group from 1st UMC in J'ville. It was a great trip but very tiring. We spent some time in MObile doing home repairs then went several places in Florida to have some fun in the sun. I think we may be getting a little old for these road trips.
Please email me sometime to let me know how things are going with you guys (or better yet make Curtis do it) Would love to hear from you any time.

Hey Burtrams! How is July going? Mom said she talked to Troy today....that Marsha was having blood drawn every hour. (I have had glucose tests done many times...and know how exhausting that is...and that is on a healthy person)...so I am sure she is tired already, and then to have to do that every hour. Aunt Gerri wanted me to tell you all how much she loves you and thinks of you and for Marsha to keep that "Morrison Spunk". We love you all....I updated her site today if you want to check it out.

Gary's on the back porch writing away for Curtis. Scott's here too - eating his traditional S'mores pop tarts and Coke for breakfast.

Marsha, please tell Curtis that I think they have some serious issues that should be addressed. Gary and Scott walking around the house singing "Man, I feel like a woman..."

It's really making me uncomfortable....

Hey Marsha & Curtis,
Hope you had an enjoyable 4th of July. We had fun playing at Veteran's Park in Talladega. I took my grill on the back of the truck and did hot dogs for the guys in the band and their wives. A good time was had by all. We've decided to change our name to pasTime Musical Entertainment and Hot Dog Stand. I don't know if it will catch on or not, but we'll see.

Our prayers are with you as always. Keep on keepin' on.

Love you both,
Gary

Hi Marsha: Hope you had a good 4th of July...read my devotional this morning and thought of you...Psalm 121.."HE will not let you stumble and fall; the one who watches over you and will not sleep. Indeed the one who watches over Israel and never sleeps. THE LORD HIMSELF WATCHES OVER YOU! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not hurt you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all evil and preserves your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,both now and forever." I KNOW God is watching over you!!...I love you, Deborah P.S. Tell Curt hello and that I love him, too!!

Hey Marsha, Curtis, and family - I know it has been a long while since I have actually written, but the reading and praying have not stopped. I am so excited to hear about the medicine you are able to try. The ministry you and your family have provided on this website have been a daily reminder of truly walking filled with the Holy Spirit. Thank you for sharing that. May God continue to bless you as you heal and gather strength.

Hey Marsha,
Hope you are having a great day. I took my grandsons to Vacation Bible School at their church this morning and then went to get a few things and kill some time at Wal-Mart. You know it's amazing how many things they have at Wal-Mart that I didn't even know I needed.
(Please don't tell Linda where I spent the morning if you happen to talk to her, I'll just tell her I was out with another woman or something like that. I'm not supposed to go to Wal-Mart by myself.)

Hope you have a great 4th. We'll be playing in Talladega for the fireworks extravaganza.

See ya!
Gary

Dearest Marsha and Curtis: I would like to begin by saying that Curtis' little contest at counting the fish on the journal page in hopes of winning a new car is NOT what has motivated me to write to you...I hope you know how much I love both of you and how much I am praying for God to continue to heal you..HOWEVER, I would like to take a guess...oh wait...on second thought...did you say that your brother MARK would be providing the car and that the winner would have to collect on their own?? I would PROBABLY have trouble getting someone to bring me wherever to collect..all of my family and friends are busy these days...bike riding and that sort of thing...anyway, the whole thing sounds kinda fishy to me..I blame NORRIS, I mean, CURTIS for that!! Love you both...hope to see you soon...Norrissa

Just wanted you all to know that Aunt Gerri is thinking of you. She has been home for a day now...spent a week in...you can catch up on her site here at caringbridge. She is weak, but improving. We do hope and pray that the side effects from the med's on Marsha will be short and that she will really get some benefit soon. I hope you all are getting rest and keeping up with your daily routines and lives. It is important to get out of the house some ( although this is one hot summer!) We love you all.

Montevallo, AL US - Friday, June 23, 2006 1:30 PM CDT
Hey Marsha!
I'm glad to hear that the meds are helping. I have thought of you often these past few weeks. Linda & I went on the Youth Mission Trip to Noah's Ark at Panama City Beach last week. It was great to see young people work in the heat for people who they didn't know and will probably never meet. Knowing that they were helping someone was enough for them. It made me glad that I get to work with such fine young folks.
The reason it made me think of you is that, through your health situations that you & your family have shared with us all in this web site, you have helped a lot of us come to terms with our own mortality and how our faith is our greatest asset in dealing with that mortality. You have also helped many, many people that you don't even know and may never know how your faith has helped to strengthen them in their struggles.
Thanks for your faith, your honesty and your love shown to your family and friends through it all.

God bless you and yours and, as always, Keep on keepin' on!!!!

Love you!
Gary

Congratulations to Lindsey and Happy Birthday! We were in Orange Beach watching "American Idol." From 7-9 Wednesday night the beach was virtually deserted. After 9 flashlights and people could be seen up and down the beach. All of Alabama was tuned in to the same station, as were we. Taylor's grandmother lives in Gulf Shores and they had BIG parties at Lulu's on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
Marsha, we pray the new meds will be exactly what is needed to prevent any reoccurences or growth. Hang in there and continue to improve...those fall football games in T town are coming up!
Love,
Freida

Hey folks! It was great to visit with yall....you are a special family--it is easy to see how much you love each other. Where Satan has tried to cause you heartache and tear you apart, just the opposite has occurred--a closer love and appreciation for each other than ever before--to God be all the glory.

It is such a wonderful sight to see Marsha cutting up and being her old self--of course an older self than me!!! Ha...just kidding Marsha--I'm right behind you with the BIG 50!

Love you all---praying for you without ceasing.

Marsha, As I was praying for you tonight, a Scripture passage from Jeremiah 9:23-24 came to mind. The first part of verse 24 has to be a word for you.

"Let them boast in this alone:that they truly know me and understand that I am the LORD who is just and righteous, whose love is unfailing ..." Jeremiah 9:24. I thank God that you know Him and you understand that His love is unfailing.

Hey Marsha,
Hope this finds you doing well. As school winds down I wonder where the year went. I know it has been a hard fought year for you and your family, but I continue to pray that God will continue to bless you and those who are caring for you so that you will get back to good health. It would certainly be a well deserved healing. You have remained faithful through it all and I know God will bless you for it.
Hope to see you sometime this summer.

Love you (give Curtis a big hug for me)
