I was diagnosed with Stage 3 adenocarcinoma of the GE junction in April 2021, meaning they found a small tumor between my esophagus and stomach which had also spread to some nearby lymph nodes. I began chemotherapy very quickly and then had a total gastrectomy followed by four more rounds of chemo. Early on in the journey I found myself spending inordinate amounts of time during my day answering text messages from friends and family telling me they had heard the news and wanting to know how I was feeling. I appreciated all the words of encouragement and the prayers but felt like I was drowning in text messages.

My brother suggested I start a Caring Bridge site where people could track my progress and I liked the idea because I didn’t want to fill up my other social media pages with cancer news. I also remembered having a friend some 15 years earlier who journaled his journey through ALS and I appreciated being a part of his battle even though I didn’t live nearby.

The thing I appreciate the most about Caring Bridge is that it has been a way for me to share my health journey with a Prayer Army that became my lifeline. It has also been a very convenient place to record details of my treatment and experiences along the way.

Thank you, Caring Bridge!
