Zinnia’s Story

Site created on September 11, 2023

Our little Zinnia Glacier experienced a traumatic brain injury yesterday, September 10, after a fall at the Gunnison Whitewater Park. Zinnia had just learned to ride a two wheeler and was on a morning cruise. She got off her bike and was jumping and playing around on the boulders, when she slipped and knocked a large rock off, which fell on her head. Thankfully, she was still wearing her bike helmet which took the brunt of some of it, however she was unconscious and having seizures, neurological issues and was experiencing a lot of bleeding. She was immediately rushed via ambulance to the Gunnison Hospital and life-flighted to the ICU at the Children's Hospital in Colorado Springs. It was determined that she has a lateral skull fracture from ear to ear and a traumatic brain injury.  There will be a long road ahead but she has made many improvements over the course of the first 24 hours. She is surrounded by family and loved ones. We will be using this page to update everyone as she makes strides to get back to her spunky self! Your prayers are working, please keep them coming.

Journal entry by Shaun M

Zinnia’s MRI came back with great results!! Her smallest aneurysm is no longer detectable and the largest one has reduced in size to the point of our neurosurgeon saying, “I am not seeing anything dangerous.”

The radiologist declared it, “nearly resolved.”

Yesterday was filled with so much emotion and to every level throughout the day. So thankful it ended insanely high!!!

For now we are settling into this new reality; absorbing the tremendous news and sharing love and gratitude 🥰

That, and celebrating with donuts, Thai food, and of course swimming : )
