Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place as I start my inpatient stay for a stem cell transplant toward the end of October. We appreciate your support and words of hope!

Journal entry by Zac Mirecki

It's been a long, but good day. Had a follow up appointment with my oncologist in Boston today (begrudgingly- but she still wanted me to go). Things are looking on the up and up and labs came back all with positive results.

But

I was quarantined at the hospital for a clear runny nose and slight post nasal drip this morning. In no way am I complaining that they were taking no chances, but I am grateful to have been in contact with as few people as I could - I have had this runny nose off and on since around Thanksgiving and the doctor says it is very likely a side effect from the stem cell transplant.

What really blew me away was that, in a city with 256 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19, that most of the younger folks I saw in and around the hospital today were taking no precautions touching door handles and elevator buttons at all and acted as if it were just another day.

Be safe and smart out there folks.
