I apologize for the absence of an update these last couple of days.  For a while there, we were just doing  a lot of watching and waiting without much to report.
Although Zac’s brain swelling has corrected, his lung injury worsened dramatically on Saturday.  After careful consideration, the team of doctors decided it best to begin a treatment called ECMO that will hopefully protect his lungs from the damage of the ARDS condition and allow his lungs to heal.  He was moved to a different unit to accomplish this. He came through the procedure to get this treatment started.  It may take 1-2 weeks to see results from this.
Sunday around noon, they also decided to do a tracheotomy for his ventilation.  This should help lessen the opportunity for complications from being on a ventilator for long periods.
Zac remains in critical condition. This kind of situation can change unexpectedly very quickly, so it is hard to keep up.  We will keep you posted as best we can.
In the meantime, we know many prayers are continuing for Zac and they are felt here.
Let us remain in prayer for Zac’s healing and safety.

Zac is stable with no significant changes.   Please let’s all pray for Zac’s improvement!  It is very hard to be patient.   Lord, please heal Zac and strengthen us to be patient and overcome all fear, until our time to rejoice comes.  In  Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Got to spend some time with Zac today.  Moma Dear, Rick and I went over for the day.  It’s the first time I had seen him after his surgery.   I had been told he had some swelling, but today the swelling was way down and he was his handsome self.  They are keeping him stable.   The nurses are in and out regularly adjusting his meds and tweaking things to keep his numbers in a good range.  The surgeon came in and said from the surgery standpoint, Zac was doing well.  The main thing now is his lung issue, the ARDS.  This needs to resolve so Zac can be weaned from the ventilator.
Let us pray specifically for the ARDS to resolve.  Dear Lord, we thank you for a day of no major setbacks or complications.  Please allow Zac’s lungs to heal quickly and he can be weaned from the ventilator.  Please guide the doctors, nurses, techs, and all involved in their care for Zac.  In Christ’s name we pray!  AMEN!
Chris and Betsy can feel our prayers and love being sent their way.   I believe Zac can too.  Knowing Zac, he would probably be a little embarrassed by all the attention he is getting.....but get used to it buddy...we are gonna be giving you lots of love and attention all the way!

As Zac remains stable, let’s pray for another day of powerful healing.   Let’s pray for patience. It’s so hard to do but the more we practice praying instead of worrying, the more we can experience the peace God wants to give us.    Dear Lord ,  we know you are at work in our lives with your great love and power.   Please hear our prayers  for a full recovery for Zac. We pray for patience and peace for us and for Zac.  AMEN!

Chris and Betsy have been sharing some pictures with me. Here is a few more, look at them and smile!

Good morning!   I thought it would be nice for everyone checking in on Caringbridge this morning to say a prayer for Zac.   I know God is hearing all our prayers at anytime but lets make it really loud sometimes and all pray the same prayer.   Here goes:   Lord Father as we begin this day please give us a humble, quiet, peaceable, patient, tender and charitable mind in all our thoughts words and deeds.   Heaven knows we will need all these virtues to help us help Zac in the time ahead.  Through every moment of this day: be with Zac, Lord. God we pray that you will make Zac whole and heal his sickness and return him to us.  Through Christ or Lord, Amen!

Thank you for praying for Zac and keeping him in your prayers always.   Betsy was sharing some recent pics with me this morning.   Here are a few of them....  Look at them and smile and send positive thoughts to Zac.  You are welcome to send a message to Zac and we can read them to him.... I know he feels our presence even if we are not physically there.  He is so loved!

Update from Atlanta this morning:    Zac is stable this morning.  Essentially the same as last night.  They are supporting his lungs with ventilator.  There have been no negative events overnight which is positive!  Most likely won’t have much change today.  There is work to do and we are ready.   Please pray for a calm mind and strong lungs today.

This is a hard journal to write tonight.   Things turned and Zac had a long hard day.    His ICP levels were such that the doctor decided he needed to have surgery to relieve the pressure.  About 2 pm today Zac had a decompressive craniotomy, where they removed a portion of his skull to allow the swelling brain room to expand without being squeezed.  He made it through the surgery and the ICP is no longer the main issue.  The acute issue is injury to the lungs called ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome) which just comes from critical illness.   Right now his oxygen level is stable.  The next 24-72 hours are very important.

We want to offer a prayer of thanks that Zac made it through this surgery and is now stable.   Please continue to pray for Zac’s healing and that the ARDS resolves.

Zac, your family is praying and pulling for you 24/7....and so are many friends and people you don’t even know.

Last night was fairly peaceful.  Zac had a couple of spikes in pressure but one was when they did a chest x-ray so that would not be unexpected.  He just had a 20 minute period of low CCP (Cerebral Perfusion Pressure, measures blood flow to the brain) and a spike in his ICP.  They have him back to normal now, mainly with blood pressure meds.  The Doctor has been in but is not quite ready to give his plan for the day.  He said he will be back.

Please pray for a peaceful day for Zac and for his pressures to remain in the good range.

Site created on July 17, 2018

We have created this Caringbridge site to keep the family and friends of Zac DiGiorgio updated  about his recent accident and his progress towards recovery.    Zac was being his always helpful self when he fell from the front porch roof of his family’s home in Smyrna, Georgia on Saturday, July 14.     Zac was taken to WellStar Kennestone hospital in Marietta, GA.   He suffered a brain injury and is being taken care of by wonderful doctors and nurses in the ICU.    Please visit here for the most current updates on Zac.      Chris, Betsy, and Noah  appreciate all the prayers, love and support they have received.     Please continue to pray for Zac and for his team of doctors and nurses.    Thank you!
