Yarrow ’s Story

Site created on September 28, 2021

I believe in the resiliency of hearts, minds, and bodies. I believe we all have wisdom and gifts to share that move us into a place of harmony, light, and love. I believe we learn from mistakes as well as a healthy hunger to know and to discover more about ourselves, each other, and our sacred responsibility to live in harmony with Mother Earth/ Father Sky and all our relations.

I am a teacher, mentor, musician, social activist, and humorist who loves to laugh, dance, pray and play. I am a woman with mental health and substance use challenges, who has been graced with sobriety since 1984. I live with my beloved wife of 30 years, Nancy, and our 2 little papillon dogs, Tinker and Bella. I am blessed to live and be supported by a loving community of healers and life-affirming humans.

This is the beginning of a new journey into health and wellbeing- I am diagnosed with Stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer. The cancer is in the bone marrow. I have lesions in my spine and sternum and other sites. I invite you all to walk with me, send me your prayers and golden sparkles of light.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Yarrow Halstead

Greetings Friends,

As we bid farewell to 2022, I want to share a review and update on my healing progress. It’s been a long year, very challenging, very painful, and often overwhelming and at the same time, filled with Hope and always guided by Spirit. Thank you all for being part of my journey. The ongoing care, love, and generosity from all of you, has and continues to help both Nancy and me beyond measure.

Early on this year, we were consumed with tests and procedures. I  received another short round of radiation in the spring to address rib pain. We also changed my chemo drug when the scans showed some progression of cancer.  My dedicated team widens as I continue working with gifted healers from many traditions.

During this time, we have enjoyed trips Up North.  Surrounded by the beauty of Nature, we embraced both solitudes and played with friends on the shores of Lake Michigan, in the sleeping bear dunes area, a very special place for us.

Our driveway became a showcase for some groovy RVs as friends traveled across the country to join our circle and support us in countless ways. Other friends traveling the country have taken me for virtual rides as they greeted the sun all over the country!

Your delicious meals, healing soups, fresh fruits and vegetables have fed us.  Grocery runs and packages in the mail have surprised and sustained us. Home repairs and yard work lightened our load. Oh, and retiring from Washtenaw County Community Mental Health in July has been a gift and has helped me focus on my healing!

With the help of your financial gifts, we purchased a lift chair last year and just recently, an adjustable bed. The support from the extra “lift” has helped ease pain and bring comfort.

It has indeed been a very FULL year! Mind, Body, and Spirit have all been attended to with such generous loving-kindness. Your gifts continue to nurture and lift our spirits every day.  We are becoming more skilled in dealing with “Scanxiety” and looking directly at the fear and the full range of emotions that come with facing the Unknown. Our relationships have deepened and love lights our path with grace and gratitude.

As we move forward into this New Year we are gifted with the welcomed news of the latest CT and bone scans -ALL stable with signs of improvement! I’m now tapering down on pain meds and feeling more energy, in-between naps, that is! Know that we could not have done this without you.  In every moment your love carries us through.

LOVE  indeed guides us. With great humility and gratitude for each moment, we thank you.  Let the love and light SHINE on All Our Lives in 2023!

Blessings,

Yarrow, Nancy, Tinker & Bella
