Newest Update

Journal entry by William Silvers

Two years ago, April 23, 2022, I had a high-level cervical spinal cord injury on the last day of Passover. Now, on the first day of Passover 2024, I am even more appreciative of my time here, and look forward to more day by day…….

I have had a few health challenges since my last communication, another hospital visit the beginning of April for not necessarily a sepsis, but this time an inflammatory dysautonomia neurogenic hypotensive saga. If that sounds somewhat vague, it was and is!  But I have the benefit of excellent physicians and healthcare at Uchealth to continue monitoring and supporting me in this venture.

Sara Nightingale and my caregivers have been absolutely wonderful.  Too many to list! But let me start with Harvey, Larry, Susan, Ivor, Tracey, David, Alan, Herzl, Hazel, Ryan, Vivienne, Daniel, Harley, Jackie, Howard, Gary, Bobbi, Morty, Rayna, Mason, Cindy, David (and his wife Marcia who allows David to come and do sit to stands and walk with me a few times a week!), and more whom I look forward to thanking in the future.

I wish not to finish this post before addressing the hostages from Israel being kept by Hamas - in what condition we do not know.  As I have said before, this is a conflict not just between Israel and Hamas, but between western democracies and totalitarian regimes including Iran, Russia, and China. It is a conflict between the virtues of life/good and the depths of death/evil.  Let us hope and pray that Good prevails over evil.

I again extend my deep appreciation to all those whose lives I may have touched over the years, who have shared their thoughts written and verbal, well wishes, and prayers with and for me.

Until then, may we Hava Nagila, have a tequila! Four glasses of wine (for those who celebrate) !!  Go forth, do good, choose and cherish life– and peace! Shalom.

Pictures:

1. In my library, this captures not only my favorite T-shirt, but more so the necklace a friend of mine from Israel gave me the before returning to the Holy Land- which states “Bring them home now”! 7/10/23 (the European October 7, 2023)!  Apropos to our saying at this time of Passover exodus to freedom “let my people go” NOW!!

2. My friend Shlomo came down from Aspen for the day to see me. So I took the opportunity to show him how I can send messages and emails from my phone by using voice control instead of typing. My phone has become my computer! Just beware of the typos!

3. The eclipse!!  Sara fortunately had the exact glasses needed from many years ago!

4. My friends David and Morty who gave me that elegant multicolored shirt, which looks like a tie-dyed, but really purchased at a very fine store – so Morty tells me!

5. Three retired Docs and one not yet retired: Daniel, Harley, Herzl, helping with my PICC line antibiotics, exercise, and schmoozing!  How many docs does it take to screw in a lightbulb?? (I’m the lightbulb)!

My thanks to all who took the time to read this and accompany me on my journey in this way!!!
