Journal entry by Wendell Gafford —
Wendell was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease about 3 years ago. He's had it for about 10 years which makes it early onset Parkinson's. He's 59 and used to be a very outgoing man but the disease is progressive. He has tremors and severe muscle spasms. He now has a gait instability so there's always the danger of falls. He has a very low tolerance for heat and cold. He's unable to work anymore and he says he feels bad because he can't support his family. I'm his wife/caregiver and I notice that he's progressing. He doesn't sleep much at night so we're running on empty much of the time. He's lost 73 pounds over the last year. All of his muscle mass is gone.
