Journal entry by Mary Golden

This post are hard for me to type. I have started it and restarted it multiple times in the last 24+ hours. It has come time that we call in home hospice. The colitis is still not giving up. So many treatments have been tried and his body just will not respond to them and get better. It has been over a year now. Because of this he has not been able to receive any treatments. They could try chemotherapy but its not generally effective with melanoma and Wayne has stated he does not want any aggressive treatments at this point.  On top of that his body is in such a weakened state that he would not handle it well at all.  The cancer has spread to his liver, brain, lungs and more lymph nodes are involved. They did do some radiation in February on the brain and neck. They did what they were supposed to but in the time that has passed since they did that "several new spots" have shown up on the brain. So its a losing battle in the sense that they do the radiation and it will take care of those spots but more will likely pop up. And the last round hit him pretty hard so again, the weakened state comes into play.
I can't say how long we have as he is getting weaker by the day, we are just taking life day by day at this point. The hospice nurses we have had have been wonderful, even coming out when I called at 230 am because I couldn't get him calmed down enough to get some rest. If you have any questions please feel free to ask but also please know that I am sleeping when I can get sleep so I may not get back to you right away.
