Vicki’s Story

Site created on October 26, 2019

On October 11th Vicki went in to the hospital in Paynesville after feeling sick for a couple of weeks. After many tests and scans, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. It appeared at the time to be contained to an area in her right lung. After more testing and imaging she received a diagnosis of Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer on October 23. The Dr. wanted to move fast, because it was very aggressive and fast moving. She was admitted in to the St Cloud Hospital on October 25th to begin Chemo and Immunotherapy. Please follow this page and send her prayers, support and well wishes. We will do our best to keep this page updated as often as possible. Thank you all for your continued love! ~Maggie

Sorry it's been so long folks! Again, we have had more questions than answers for a while, but we are getting there. With the chemo finished mom started immunotherapy in Jan. They were not able to start when they wanted to because her blood counts were off. They planned the second round of immunotherapy for a few weeks later, but again had to postpone due to the same thing. She finally got the second round last week, but had to do transfusions. She has been in so much pain  and so tired (due to a combination of factors). They discovered that she had developed antibodies due to so many transfusions. This week she has had a lot of appointments and a lot of tests. We were thinking that she may have to have a biopsy on her bone marrow to see what was going on. Thankfully that won't need to happen. They discovered that with the immunotherapy her body was attacking her blood cells and bones. They discontinued the immunotherapy and are hoping that we see improvement in her numbers now. The Dr is treating her symptoms. A huge thing though, is that he said her cancer is in remission!!!!
I know many of you want to see her, and she would love to see many of you. Please text before you go visit to be sure she is up for company. She is still very tired and in plenty of pain.
I have not been able to go see her for quite some time because we have constantly had one kid or another with a cough or the sniffles and the last thing I want is to bring some stupid little virus in and get her sick, but I am doing my best to keep in touch and keep tabs on her.
I really hope that with some answers and a plan she starts feeling good. I am still hopeful that she will be ready to be out and about for baseball and whatnot this summer. #goals right?!?
Grace, Sam and Anna have been absolutely AMAZING about getting her where she needs to go and taking care of her. Abby came down a couple of weeks ago and hung out for a couple of days too. I seriously have the very best siblings!
Keep praying, keep checking in, keep fighting, keep hoping!
