Vickie’s Story

Site created on July 24, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
To start Mom was brought in on Thursday last week due to having chest pin and trouble breathing. We quickly found out she had a respiratory infection and uti. She was supposed to discharge by the latest Monday.
Come Monday she aspirated and was struggling to breath. They could not keep her Oxygen saturation’s up and wanted to do a swallow study but have not been able to due to her not being stable enough.
Tuesday they placed her on palliative hospice for comfort care due to her continued struggles.
Yesterday after a struggle with coughing and oxygen saturation’s in the 70’s they placed her on humidified high flow oxygen. She continues in routine Ativan and fentanyl for pain.

Journal entry by Amber Gillis

This is Jeff now.  With a heavy heart, the news we have all wanted to never hear.  As we were all by her side, joking, laughing, and listening to stories, Vickie took her last breath at about 3:30pm.  She was clearly at peace and feeling no more pain as she took her last breaths.  We thank everyone for all of the heartfelt words and prayers along the way.
