Newest Update

Journal entry by Randal Swanson

Holly continues to be healthy in the face of her disability. She continues to engage with her caregivers. I enjoy it when I can introduce her to the new folk who rotate in, it helps them know that she has opinions and can express them if we watch for her responses. Things bump along normally which is hard to write about so I enjoy it when milestones come up to share how things are going.

So Happy Kidney Day! We didn't plan in 2010 that Earth Day would be the special date, but it has been convenient to have the day blocked out on the official calendars even if it is miss labeled for us. I'm updating the annual poster for Holly's door so I thought I would celebrate this with the Caring Bridge community too. Holly blogged her kidney failure and transplant experience so I posted an update there. Thankfully given how many of Holly's physical processes need to medically managed the kidney requires little intervention. This reflects how routine it was for her to live her second life with work, taking care of her parents, and helping the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Roseville before West Nile changed her life.

We are grateful to the folks at Benedictine who work tirelessly and with great care to keeping Holly healthy. I am grateful that can find things that give her a little more environmental enhancement.

It's funny, during the legislative session our public television broadcasts committee meetings and floor proceedings. As a more or less ironic move I put on a committee session for her and when I thought she might have had enough I asked her if she wanted something else, she wanted to finish the session. So now we check in on the legislature. I guess you can take the reporter out of government affairs, but she's always ready to jump back in. I know golf and the Three Stooges are not appreciated but I still try new things with her. Mysteries, some documentaries, and Phil Rosenthal's food and travel shows are popular.

That's a little about where we are now and a big Happy Kidney Day to all.
