Tyler’s Story

Site created on December 28, 2020

Welcome to Tyler's CaringBridge Website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated on Tyler's progress in one place so that Kelly, Kevin and the family can focus their attention on supporting him. Family and friends are welcome to send well wishes, and support through this site.  One thing we know for sure is that we all want Tyler to have the very best care. With that, a GoFundMe (https://www.gofundme.com/28jo6a1meo) has been set up for Tyler so that those who wish to support him financially may do so.

We ask that everyone allow the family the privacy they need. This includes visits, calls, emails and text messages. This site is the place where all updates will be available on a regular basis.

Thank you for continuing to send your well wishes, your thoughts and your prayers for Tyler and his family. They are felt and heard. Tyler and his family deeply appreciate all of your love and support.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Kelly Krantz

Dear Family and Friends,

As another year draws to a close and we are in a season of reflection we thought that we would update you on a few major highlights and updates! We are coming up on the three year anniversary of Tyler’s accident. In some ways it feels like a hundred years ago and in other ways just moments.

In May, Tyler made his final trip to Rochester, Minnesota to complete his participation in a Mayo Clinic stem cell research trial.   Tyler was a participant in part two of a four part study.  We are hopeful that research and improvements in spinal cord injury recovery continues.  Tyler’s results from the stem cell transplant has yielded some improvements, more feeling in his feet and legs and increased sensitivity to temperature. We are also closely following several other companies that are making advances in the treatment of paralysis.

In June we traveled to Cayman Brac as a family. Tyler and Kevin completed their diving certification with the expertise and generosity of Denver Divers.  We had a glorious 7 days on the tiny island of Cayman Brac, surrounded by crystal waters and amazing wildlife.  We are incredibly grateful to Craig Hospital and Denver Divers for the scholarship that helped to fund diving equipment and travel expenses. Tyler is looking forward to exploring many corners of the sea with future trips!

Tyler is graduating from the University of Washington in June with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations.  To say we are beyond proud is an understatement.  This degree represents the truest form of Tyler’s will and determination.  He is currently looking into internships and hopes to ultimately enter a graduate program.

As a family we are still blown away by the ongoing love and care that has supported us for the last three years.  We will be better on updating you on all our adventures and progress!

Wishing you all a joyful holiday and a peaceful New Year!

Love,

The Krantz Family
