Trish’s Story

Site created on February 20, 2019

It seems Alain and I have become rather used to taking advantage of this Caring Bridge site.  So now it's my turn to be the patient, but after what Alain experienced, this will be a walk in the park.  As most of you know, for the past few years I have experienced pain in my right hip and the past year it has become gradually worse.  So Dr. Shelby Carter to the rescue - I was originally scheduled for surgery on August 5th, 2019.  (Dr Carter is rather popular.) Last weekend I was offered a cancellation appointment on the 25th of February and now all the ducks are in a row and it will be happening at 11.30am on that day!  St Davids's hospital is where the magic will happen and I will be spending one night, or possibly two.  I'm grateful to be living in such extraordinary times (well from a medical point of view that is!) Alain and I will keep you up to date as I slowly become the Bionic Woman!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Trish Laird

This time last week, I was nervously preparing for my hip replacement. How good it feels to talk about it in the past tense and to pass along positive reports.

This past week seems to have passed ever so quickly and of course I can thank the very powerful drugs which has made it one very blurred memory.

Thank you all so much for pampering me and surrounding me in your love, that is the part I will never forget ( even in a very stoned state of mind.)

Phebe and Annie Doggies have slowed down and each time I move from one side of the cottage to the other, they move behind me, as if in slow motion in a respectful procession - it’s so beautiful and makes me smile.

Alain Darling - considering we are like the blind leading the blind and you too are in recovery. I will never forget just how much effort you put in to helping me put on my support stockings each day. You get the support stocking medal!

I’m longing to have my normal life back again and to be able to skip down the road with a wee smile on my face. It’s the little things in life.

Thanks again for your love and kindness. Bye for now from this Hip Scottish Lassie.
Big Kiss,
Trish
