Tripp’s Story

Site created on April 19, 2019

Thank you for visiting our CaringBridge website, we will use this site to update our family and friends throughout our son's heart journey. Brian Timothy Hughes III or "Tripp" will be joining us 4/22/19. He was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot and pulmonary atresia at his 20 week ultrasound. It is anticipated he will have his first heart surgery to place a BT Shunt 5-7 days after birth, then a full open heart surgical repair ~6-9 months old. We greatly appreciate all the love, prayers, and support we've received! Thank you for joining us and loving our heart warrior as much as we do!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Alissa Hughes

We are home (& reunited with Hayley)!! This week was a once-in-a lifetime experience & we feel so fortunate we were able to do it! Modern medicine is truly a miracle & without it kiddos like Tripp wouldn't survive, let alone thrive! In addition to modern medicine, all your prayers since Tripp was born have helped him overcome A LOT & we can never say thank you enough! It's an incredible feeling to have a child like Tripp who has inspired not only us, his family, our friends, but also a network of people who would be strangers without him. We are Blessed!

CHARGE syndrome is rare & very complicated so we learned a lot this week and will likely continue learning about him throughout the rest of his life. The knowledge we gained will help us keep him healthy & help him meet his potential as a CHARGEr! The most important thing I've learned about CHARGE is to never let their diagnoses set their limits because these kiddos are capable of overcoming many medical obstacles better than anyone could've anticipated! They are truly warriors ! 💪

Since he does have so many different things going on, updates are difficult to summarize. The most important thing we're going to work on now is getting him some glasses. 🤓 He has colobomas on both optic nerves, but the one on his right eye is much bigger so we're hoping to "catch up" the right eye with the left by getting him some glasses!

Thank you for all the love #teamtripp! 😘❤️❣️
