Tracy’s Story

Site created on January 2, 2020

The morning of December 17, 2019 started as any other morning with the exception of a sore throat on the left side. I thought it odd to hurt just on one side but it wasn't the first time I experienced this. I took Ibuprofen and started work. As the day wore on, I felt like my throat and neck area was swollen. I also had trouble swallowing. It felt like something was stuck in my chest. By early evening, I could only whisper. I talked to my sister and decided an ER visit was in order. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days. I have a mass in my chest along with enlarged lymph nodes. I found out today, January 2 that I have low grade salivary gland adenocarcinoma cancer. I don't have much more information to share at this point. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Updates will be provided as I continue on this journey.

Journal entry by Tracy Madden

I have an esophagoscopy on January 17. The Dr wants to view my esophagus since the mass surrounds my esophagus. He has also ordered a PET scan to find out where cancer started. Also looking to see if there is a primary cancer somwhere else. It's hard waiting.
