Tracy’s Story

Site created on September 6, 2018

Hello, thank you for visiting Tracy's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.   On July 5th Tracy was diagnosed with a very treatable type of breast cancer. Her initial treatment was to include a lumpectomy and radiation. During the lumpectomy the Dr. biopsied her lymph nodes. Unfortunately the pathology report came back with 5 out of the 6 lymph nodes testing positive for cancer and they did not get clean margins on the tumor removal. At the same time, we heard back from the genetic therapist with the news that Tracy carries the genetic abnormality of CHEK2. This is connected with a higher incidence of breast cancer. This has lead us to the next steps of a double mastectomy with chemo and radiation. The surgery is scheduled for Sept, 7th. We will post updates as they happen. Tracy is keeping high spirits and taking it all one step at a time. By this time next year we anticipate this all being behind us. We just have an intense road ahead. Thank you for connecting!

Journal entry by Tracy Waldas

I am at the end of round two of chemo. With chemo being on Tuesdays, the four days before the next round are “the honeymoon days“. I feel like the nausea subsides and I have a bit more energy. So today, marks the first day of it for this round!

This round has been about the same as the first. I have experienced a lot of nausea And days 8 to 9 a lot of bone pain. I’ll have to admit, bone pain is awful. Claritin and the Chinese tea help. I’m so thankful it just lasts about a day. My oncologist had told us that what people experience the 1st cycle will pretty much be how every cycle will go for symptoms. She was absolutely right.

With the end of round 2, I am starting to loose my hair. Since starting chemo, every morning I do a yank test on my hair. Sure enough, the day after this past treatment I yanked and got a clump of hair. Dave was very sweet and gave me a buzz cut to help make the falling out hair be very short. Watch out Demi Moore, I got you on this GI Jane look.

Our dear friend Barb from Colorado is presenting a Norwex party to support using chemical free cleaning products. During breast cancer awareness month, proceeds go towards cancer research. I am including info here for anyone interested in looking at chemical free cleaning products. She is wanting to close the show on 10/20.

Please take advantage of this party link. Let's send Tracy some love!
