Chip introduced Tony to me on the street in front of the Redwood in DTLA back in May 2016. He sort of grunted. Chip seemed unhappy with is greeting and interjected that we were label mates (at the time), so Tony shook my hand. He was quiet and kept to himself for most of the evening. Chip managed to convince him to sing Big Train with FDMDXFD! What a treat! Then, I played my set and preformed of cover of the Kinman brothers song, Lucky Day, from their Rank & File days. I was sitting alone backstage afterward and Tony walks in with a BIG SMILE on his face and Chip following close behind. Chip said, "You played it better than we ever did!" I was happy they both were impressed. Last year we recorded the song together, with Tony in the producer chair and Chip doing most of the heavy lifting on guitar. I sent Tony the rough mix and answered, "Well done...it’s a great track and no quibbles or quobbles. Thanx for letting me be a part of it. Don’t change a thing." We spoke again about doing some more songs, to which he told me that he really looked forward to working together again. My heart goes out to Tony, Chip and all of their family and friends. Big love and big thanks for the the joy you've brought into this world.
