Tom’s Story

Site created on November 17, 2020

We are using this site to keep family and friends updated about my dad's condition in one place.  My dad (Tom) was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2017.  Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a complex, challenging, and surprisingly common brain disease. Although lesser known than its “cousins” Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, LBD is not a rare disorder. More than 1 million Americans are affected by its disabling changes in the ability to think and move. Currently, there is no cure for this disease. Learn more here: https://www.lbda.org/

Dad has been struggling mostly with rapid cognitive decline and we began hospice care in early November and now his body is physically breaking down too. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Journal entry by Julie Cady

A strange Thanksgiving as we get used to a Tom-sized hole in our hearts and a missing seat at the Thanksgiving table.  This was dad’s favorite holiday and his food was sooo good.  In his honor, check out the Philadelphia Inquirer obituary section in today’s paper for a very nice article feature about my dad.

Happy  Thanksgiving everyone🦃🍁❤️
