On August 9, 2021, Rob was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He is still in the beginning stages of the diagnosis but we do know it has spread. He had a radical inguinal orchiectomy surgery on August 18th to remove his testicle, leaving him with none. He and his wife, Dani, have received a lot of information in a short time: surgery, recovery, hormone replacement, more scans and waiting on pathology results. Rob is in good hands, though and is a fighter. The surgery went well, but his PTSD made things really hard for him with waking up from sedation. Thankfully Dani understood what was going on and was able to help him and explain things to the medical team. One of the nurses especially was really kind concerning the situation and told them to ask for her if he has any other surgeries.

The latest update is that Rob has been a champ and is resting when he can. He is tolerating things well enough. Hormone injections started Friday August 20th and this will be needed every 2 weeks for life. After they get the pathology results and chest CT, he will likely be able to move forward with chemo in September.

There will be updates as Rob and Dani have time and learn more about next steps. Dani has a lot going on as well  keeping the home in order and securing childcare for their 4 boys with all the upcoming appointments.

Please send many thoughts and prayers and lots of love to Rob, Dani and their family. Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Dani Dean

The last 36 hours have been a crazy blur and we're going on a few short hours of sleep. We're waiting to get checked in for his surgery. Surgery is supposed to start at 7:30. They are anticipating 4-5 hours.

For anyone who missed my last update my husband Rob is having a Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection (RPLND) to remove any remaining cancer after 4 rounds of chemo. Feel free to look up the surgery. It's a very serious surgery and his is especially tougher due to the location of his cancer. It's located between his Aorta artery and major kidney vessels. It's harder after chemo since they have scar tissue to deal with.

Please pray for our family. Especially for Rob. He's having a tough time with this surgery. We are so thankful our boys are at home with Rob's mom. That way I can be at the VA waiting.

We appreciate all of the love and support. For anyone wanting to help our family through Rob's cancer journey we have Venmo @RobDaniDean (code 6544) or https://gofund.me/f72db638. We greatly appreciate everyone who has already helped our family.
