Journal entry by Bob and Danielle Begeske

Danielle underwent a clinical trial cancer treatment, where the T-cells from her body were extracted, modified in a lab in Boston, MA, frozen, thawed at the bedside, and then re-infused into her body on Monday, March 3rd 2020.

30 days later, on April 3rd, 2020; her Lung CT scans showed no visible signs of a tumor!

Dear God, Thank you:

Thank you for allowing Danielle to be eligible for this treatment, as 80% of applicants do not meet the inclusion criteria for this trial treatment.

Thank you for your timing related to this treatment, because if it took 3 weeks longer for the T-Cells to be manufactured (as originally expected), Danielle would have not had a hospital bed at Northwestern due to COVID-19, and this treatment would have been postponed indefinitely.

Thank you AdaptImmune, the company responsible for this innovative cancer treatment that is effectively saving Danielle's life, allowing her to live cancer free without needing to continue lifelong chemo treatments.

Thank you for the inpatient and outpatient oncology care team at Northwestern Medical Center & NW Prentice Women's Hospital, as they have been amazing throughout this entire experience.

Thank you Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH), for supplementing Danielle's care along the way, providing local resources to help with her severe nausea symptoms post chemo treatments, and providing our family with income, insurance, and occupational flexibility to be able to sustain during this battle.

And mostly, thank you for surrounding us with the most selfless, loving, caring family and friends whose physical, emotional, financial, and spiritual support allowed for these results to be possible. We could not have done this without you!!!

Danielle is home now, since last Saturday, at our home in Southern Illinois.  Due to the dangers in Chicago related to COVID-19, we will be doing the mandatory blood work at CT scans at SIH near home, and then having phone consultations to review results with the team at Northwestern until this pandemic slows.

I will continue to share the results of her labs/scans as they come in. The frequency will be about every month or 2 months going forward for lung scans, but the hope is that these T-Cells will keep Danielle cancer free forever.

Thank you everyone for all that you have done to help our family during this incredibly difficult time in our life.

We love you all
