Bill’s Story

Site created on November 24, 2018

On Thanksgiving Day, minutes after carving the turkey and laughing with his son-in-law, Bill sat down to eat with his family and started to experience the symptoms of a stroke. His two daughters sitting across from him noticed the telltale signs right away and alerted my mom who got him to GBMC from Monkton in record time. Bill suffered a moderate ischemic stroke but got to the hospital in time to receive immediate care and the time sensitive drug, TPA. He is currently stable but experiencing left side immobility and is awaiting a transfer to an acute neuro rehabilitation facility. Come back for updates and please keep Bill in your daily prayers. At this time, visitors outside of immediate family are not allowed due to the brain sensitivity he is experiencing. We so appreciate your prayers. Lots of Love, the Armstrong Family

Newest Update

Journal entry by Joanne Manzo

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying getting ready for Christmas! Sorry it has been a while since I’ve updated. I don’t want to be too repetitive, so I will only update when there are big milestones. The good news is Bill is slowly but definitely progressing each day. It’s a grueling process but he is facing it head on. Bill is working on walking with a cane instead of a hemi-walker and also starting to tackle stairs in physical therapy.

Please keep the prayers coming. He faces a lot of challenges daily and I know the prayers are a big part of what keeps him going. Thank you for checking in and for your support!!

If you are interested in or just curious about what experiencing and recovering from a stroke is like, I’m reading an amazing book by a brain scientist who suffered a very severe stroke and fully recovered. She remembered and documented the entire experience. It’s a quick read and it’s fascinating! It’s called “My Stroke of Insight” by Jill Bolte Taylor.

Lots of love from all the Armstrongs
