Terry’s Story

Site created on June 15, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement for Terry.  Thank you for visiting.

Terry was diagnosed with lung cancer, stage 2 with a squamous cell carcinoma tumor (T2) approximately 5 cm in diameter.   Thankfully, the doctors caught it very early after he sought treatment for a respiratory illness earlier this spring.   After long consideration of all treatment options and seeking counsel from multiple physicians, he decided to have the tumor surgically removed for the best percentage chance to completely beat cancer.  One of the nation’s best and most-renowned cardiothoracic surgeons handled his surgery on June 17th, 2019 at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis and removed the lower lobe of his right lung.   Adjacent lymph nodes were also removed  and sent to Pathology to determine future treatment plan to be determined over the coming days and weeks.

We will be updating the site with his progress over the coming days.   Your prayers for strength and recovery are greatly appreciated!  Feel free to take a minute and visit the Well Wishes page to let him know you are thinking of him.

Journal entry by Todd Hollowell

since Dad has been home.  His recovery has been slow but certainly positive.  He’s resting better, gaining strength and stamina, getting his appetite back, and staying patient with the process.  We spent time playing cards and Yahtzee tonight after dinner, after he ate a full salad and plate of Pam’s famous lasagna.

He wanted to thank all of you for your continued prayers, as well as his doctors, nurses, and caregivers for the care he received.  “Every day gets a little bit better.”
