Journal

Teddy has progressed a long way since his terrible seizure-related fall directly on his face on a concrete sidewalk on the evening of Saturday, October 26th.

He has been receiving excellent care at the Yale New Haven Hospital since that night, and been such a brave and cooperative patient despite being frightened and in pain.  His inherent sweetness shines through every day.

Teddy had 2 plastic surgeries on Tuesday, October 28th, the first lasting 5 hours during which small plates were implanted to address many broken facial bones (both cheekbones, eye socket, upper jaw).  His jaws were wired shut (for 12 weeks!).  He unfortunately needed the second surgery Tuesday night after a CT scan revealed that a plate by his broken eye socket had shifted post-surgery.  The surgeons removed this plate so as not to risk damage to his left eye.

But—- no spinal or vision damage!!!

After much discussion with Teddy’s appointed hospital care manager, John, Charlie, Teddy and I have agreed that Teddy’s best option is to continue his recovery at a rehab facility in Connecticut that would be fairly close to the hospital (for follow-up appointments) as well as the dedicated Vista Life Innovation program staff who have loved and worked with him for the past several years.  It’s been challenging to find such a place but we all persevere while enjoying seeing Teddy grow stronger each day.
I continue to be with Teddy throughout his hospitalization and eventual transition out.

Thanks to all for cards, messages, thoughts and prayers!

- Peggy
