Damon’s Obituary is in the newspaper today. For those that do not get the paper I am sharing it with you.

In Loveing Memory

A life-long Alaskan, Damon was born in Anchorage, Alaska to David and Margo Carey on December 24, 1972. He graduated from Bartlett High School and then completed his Bachelor's degree at the University of Alaska. Damon was a beloved teacher, friend, coach, and mentor for 22 years at Polaris K-12 School.

Damon’s world revolved around his family. He met his wife, Melissa, as they became high school sweethearts and then married on May 22, 1998. They have one son, Dac Andrew Carey who is a junior at Central Washington University.

Damon never said no to a friend and always offered a lending hand. He was a consummate champion and cheerleader who encouraged others to be the very best version of themselves. He had a wicked sense of humor and always had a smile on his face. Although diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as an infant, Damon did not allow it to define him. He chose to combat this difficult condition with healthy life choices and lots of exercise, including a summer lawn care business that found him meticulously mowing lawns at all hours. He loved skiing, biking, running, fishing, camping, vacationing with his family, and spending valuable time with his treasured wife.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa, their son, Dac, Damon's twin brother Darin & husband Marty, brother Jay and wife Maver with their two daughters Kasila and Brystal, and sister Sarah and husband Travis with their three sons Aiden, Caelin, and Declan. He is preceded in death by his mother and father.

A memorial service will be held on December 28, 2021, at 1:00 pm at St. Patrick's Catholic Church (2111 Muldoon Road). A celebration of Life will immediately follow at Saint Coyote (135 W. Dimond Blvd #111). In lieu of flowers, Damon's family respectfully requests donations to be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Children's Hospital at Providence.
