Newest Update

Journal entry by Jordan Micklelson

Hey y'all, just wanted to give a quick update:

So yesterday Mackenzie got her bloodwork, CT, & PET scans done and after meeting with her doctor today, everyone is cautiously optimistic...

Most of her growths showed significant reduction in mass, since her last scans in September. However, there were 1 or 2 spots that had increased activity that they are going to keep an eye on. Her oncologist explained it is most like because she has had a cold and been sick, so we are in a wait and see pattern for the next 6 weeks until her next scan...

In the meantime she is officially done with chemo! And now we are working on scheduling her to get her chest port removed asap, so she can start healing and living life a little more!

In about 6 weeks we will have another PET scan and see if everything seems normal. Worst case scenario, if they find she needs more treatment, it would be targeted radiation, and thankfully over the course of a just a few weeks. So hopefully no matter what we hear later on it will be easier to deal with :]

Anyways, it has been a long hard road for all of us, especially Kenzie, but I am really happy to at least be turning the corner even if that means just a little more work to do... It was a also a huge deal because Kenzie got the "A-OK" restart Volleyball and to travel more without all the stress, so she can go to Cancun with Lindsey & Luke this winter! It was a small moment and victory but I know for all of us we took a big collective breath and exhaled as we are finally starting to get back to normal :]

If all goes well in 6 weeks and scans are clean, Mackenzie will be "ringing the bell" at Children's Hospital to signal she is officially in remission. More to come in February, stay tuned and thank you for all of your support!
