Teagan’s Story

Site created on October 16, 2020

Welcome to Teagan's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, prayers and words of hope and encouragement.  On Wednesday October 15th Christie brought Teagan to the Pediatrician due to several concerns.  Over the past couple weeks Teagan developed  numerous abnormalities including torticollis, setting-sun sign, head nodding, bulging eyes and irritability to name a few.  Teagan arrived at the pediatrician and was quickly transported to Connecticut Children's for diagnostic imaging and further assessment.  The CT scan revealed a mass behind her eyes that was blocking her Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from draining.  That evening she went into surgery to get a External ventricular drain (EVD) placed to relieve the pressure and CSF buildup. Surgery went well and the EVD was successfully placed.  The Doctor requested  a MRI to get a more in-depth assessment.  The imaging confirmed a brain tumor.  At this point the Doctor cannot confirm what type of tumor it is.  They are waiting on blood work and labs for additional details.  It also won't be completely confirmed until a biopsy is done.  Surgery is planned for Tuesday October, 20th.  The surgeons plan to remove the entire tumor unless there are obstacles in the way (ie vessels, arteries etc).  If the surgical team is not able to completely remove the tumor, Teagan may have to undergo chemotherapy (even if it is benign).  We trust that Teagan is under the best care possible and would appreciate prayers during this difficult time.  We will continue to post with updates as they come along.

Journal entry by Christie Carlson

Teagan had another MRI Monday and we were able to meet with her surgeon today to go over the results. Thankful to say Teagan once again has clear scans! We get to graduate to MRI’s once a year.  We also took out her g tube which was bittersweet for us both. It’s been a part of her for so long and my way of feeding and caring for her. Thank you everyone for your comments and reaching out. We are so grateful for the support our community shows!
