Tate’s Story

Site created on May 30, 2018

Welcome to Tate Cook’s CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family & friends updated in one place and many posts have been shared from a previous Facebook family group message.
Tate was up to his typical shenanigans on May 23rd, 2018 and suffered a traumatic injury from a fireworks explosion. His most significant trauma has been:  the amputation of the left pinky and ring fingers,  severe damage/loss of the side of his left hand, two broken wrists, broken bones on his right forearm, and a couple broken fingers. Given the circumstances, we are thankful that he did not sustain even worse injuries.
We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Leah Bayliss

Per the request of the VA, Tate will be transferred down to the VA Hospital as of 11:00am today. He will recieve the best care as he continues his long road to healing and therapy. He is determined to get back to his independent self! He was able to sit himself up with minor assistance last night, and is starting to use his left hand more frequently. His smile and humor is starting to show more often now, even through all the pain. Once he is settled at the VA we will know more as to what room he is in, visiting hours and such!
