Tammy’s Story

Site created on November 12, 2021

Welcome to our safe place where we will keep you updated with Tammy's progress in her journey of fighting sarcoma. If you are here, please know that we appreciate all of your messages, prayers, and words of encouragement. We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Just a few months ago, our world was turned upside down when my mom, or as we refer to her now as Gigi, went to the doctor and discovered she had a large tumor in her abdomen. After many tests, doctor appointments, biopsy and prayers it was determined she has a rare type of cancer called undifferentiated spindle cell sarcoma. With little knowledge about this disease from medical professionals in Tennessee, they sent her to be seen at Cleveland Clinic this November. An incredible team was set in place with some of the best doctors to help her beat this.

She will start chemotherapy and radiation before her surgery can take place. She is working with an oncologist in Knoxville and will be receiving chemo starting this week for the next six weeks surrounded by her huge and local support system. Then she will head to Cleveland, OH for five weeks of radiation. Praying that chemo and radiation have been successful in reducing the risk of surgery, she will stay in Cleveland for surgery.

Every person reading this knows my mom and what a force she has always been. We have no doubt that her nickname of the energizer bunny will be used as strength to face the journey that lies ahead. We know that she is not alone in this stage of life. We have felt God’s hand on this since the very beginning and are continually reminded of his faithfulness in this diagnosis. Many people have asked what they can pray for, and right now we are praying that chemo is as manageable as can be, while also reducing the size of the tumor. We ask that you also pray for containment of the disease, as it shows no signs yet that it has spread. We strongly believe God has chosen these doctors for my mom’s story. We ask that you pray for their knowledge and guidance as they navigate her treatment, as well. We know that the power of prayer and the outpouring of people asking to help and how to pray will help my mom know that she has a strong and supportive village fighting with her.

For those asking how they can help besides praying, please click on the Ways to Help tab to take you to the GoFundMe page.

The below donation link is misleading as it goes towards the website, it does not go towards mom's recovery goal.

We are filled with gratefulness and hope. Thank you.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Tammy Tipton

Well, it’s been a little over a year since my surgery. I just got the results back today on my 4th scan in a year. The great news is so far there is no reoccurrence or metastatic spread. God has been with me throughout this journey and will continue to comfort and guide me throughout each and every milestone. I can feel prayers being lifted up daily from family and friends. Thank you all so much for your love and support. This year has brought so many gifts and memories. I got to see the birth of grandchild number 4 in June, little Cooper Hayes. I will soon get to see the birth of grandchild 5 this coming June. My daughter and her family have moved back to Knoxville for the first time in 10 years. Even cancer can have silver linings. I got to experience UT playingfootball and basketball in person for the first time in 3 years, and what magical seasons they both had this year. I got to celebrate countless birthdays and holidays with my entire family. I know the challenges that we face every day can seem overwhelming and the daily news can be downright depressing, but each day seems to bring hope and promise for me right now. Thank you, God, and family and friends for helping me see the sun even on the cloudiest of days❤️🙏
