Journal entry by Susie Shackleton

Hi folks, sorry again for the long lapse in reporting. In the meantime, Susie was declined for participation in the clinical study( she wasn't bad off enough, they said) so she will continue to be given aspirin for a blood thinner. She has an implanted heart monitor but no irregularity has shown up thus far. Our neurologist nurse says typically if you don't see any sign of A-Fib in the first 90 days, you probably won't see it. We're almost to that point. Susie went to her high school reunion  in August and had a good time. Her classmates made a big point of seeking her out and expressing support. It was pretty nice actually and a fun time. We walk in the park most mornings whenever there isn't a conflict, typically a mile and a half. Susie has two sessions each a week of speech and occupational therapy. Her right arm has proven to be a very stubborn rehab project. In therapy, with electrodes attached, she can manipulate her hand and fingers. Outside of therapy, not so much. Her speech continues to improve. We hope to have another speech therapist come by the house for additional therapy starting this week. She is able to have a conversation on her own and can sometimes text message coherently. We are planning to go ahead with a previously planned trip to Napa valley in October. It will be the first trip we've been on where we had to fly somewhere. Ironically, Susie has largely lost her taste in wine. Not much tastes good to her anymore. She has also lost 35 or so pounds over the course of her ailment which is good. Thanks for all the cards, well wishes and prayers. It makes a huge difference.
