Newest Update

Journal entry by Susan Sims

Thank you all for your words of encouragement and prayers. I have been healing all summer and am going through physical therapy and I'm finally feeling good. Sorry for the lack of updates, but the reconstruction process was painful and uncomfortable and I didn't want to whine.

I saw the plastic surgeon last Tuesday and he said I am healed completely and ready for the next surgery. I thought the surgery would be in October/November, but he said I'm ready now so it's set for August 30. Also, the tissue expander that is inside me has been recalled for causing cancer. (Not breast cancer. It's linked to a specific type of lymphoma.)

I am grateful that the recall happened before my final implant was put in place because my doctor was planning to put one of the recalled implants in me as my permanent implant. It has a nice shape for post-mastectomy surgeries. Oh well, I'm getting a regular implant. I'll just be happy to get this expander out of me. It did its job, but I wouldn't want to keep it permanently because it's not very soft.

I think this upcoming surgery will be similar to a breast augmentation surgery and I'm hoping to recover quickly. All prayers for a successful surgery and recovery are much appreciated. Thank you!
