Susan’s Story

Site created on March 28, 2018

I sit here reflecting on what has taken place since Friday.  On Friday, March 23rd, I received a phone call that no parent ever wants to hear, "Your daughter was in an accident and you need to come fast!"  I made it to my daughter's school, from Irwindale to Covina, in 11 minutes.  We went to Queen of the Valley Hospital and they said we have to get to Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, right away.  Fast forward to my daughter having a broken femur...  The heartbreaking part is they found Osteosarcoma (Cancer) on her femur, which caused the bone to get weak and break.  I have been numb and questioning everything.  Her femur was operated on and we have to wait and see what our next step is to get it removed.  The blessing is if it wasn't for the break, it would have spread. I don't know what lies ahead, but what I do know, with my entire family behind me, and God's hands on my daughter, He will give us strength. I ask for prayer and I want you guys to know, don't take anything for granted. My children are my life. My daughter is my best friend. I am nothing without them.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Amy Callahan

Samantha had another PET Scan. Her PET Scan showed no sign of anything else except for what's on her femur. They sent a biopsy to another country to view to try and figure out what type of Osteosarcoma it is. On April 16th, they will be returning to Children's Hospital to meet with a team of doctors to tell them what the course of treatment will be. Samantha will be admitted on April 18th.
Today, they will be able to go home. Please continue to keep Samantha and her family in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you, again, for all of the donations and words of encouragement.
