Journal entry by Chris Myers

So it has been a while and quite a bit has changed with my mom’s status.  She was moved to an assisted living facility last week and is doing much better.  She will continue to receive therapy for the foreseeable future but is at a point where she is able to move and do most everything independently.  The biggest thing she still struggles with is her aphasia.  They are continuing to work on that and are hopeful she will continue to improve.  For those who don’t know; aphasia is basically a disconnect in her brain where she knows what she wants to say but can’t find the words.  This makes communication slow and challenging for her but she has gotten better about being able to describe what she is trying to say.

For those of you wanting to send cards to her, the address of her facility is as follows:
Signe & Olivias
Attn Susie Myers
1545 Harbor Street
Ogilvie, MN 56358

Mom has come a long way in her recovery and the therapists at Courage Kenny were all very happy with the progress she made while there.  She still has work ahead of her to regain her independence but we are hopeful that with continued therapy she will be back to independent living in the near future.  I will be seeing my mom this weekend for Mother’s Day and will be sure to pass along any messages you may have.  I will also try to update everyone after my visit with more information on what sort of communication she would prefer as I’m not entirely sure of her communication abilities at this time.  Once again, thanks for all of your love and support, we all appreciate it!
