Susan’s Story

Site created on July 15, 2019

What's the story on this newest Susan Adventure?

It started when I fainted for the first time in my life. On May 16 I was hospitalized with 109 sodium level.  135 is the optimum level.   At 109 seizures, coma and death are very real possibilities.
In order to determine what was causing the problem - my body was holding water and eliminating sodium - I underwent tons and tons of tests. It was determined that I have small cell cancer in my left lung, two lymph nodes the size of ping pong balls in my chest, and surgery isn't an option.

So, last week I began the journey:
Chemo Therapy - four, three-day IV Infusion sessions, each session 21 days apart. Radiation Therapy - M-Friday for six weeks.

Thank You So Much for joining me in my challenging new adventure into the unknown.  I can't express how very, very much your love and support means to me as I take one-day-at-a-time-steps into a whole scary new reality.

It is going very well!  I haven't had any problems with side effects, except a bit of brain-jumble bouts with Chemo Brain - Very Real And Absolutely The Pits!!  I wish I could find a zipper for my mouth on CB Days!!!!

I will be reading this every day, and writing updates as often as possible.   My family will also ad updates.

Thank You Again for your wonderful concern, love, support and prayers - they solidify  and brighten this new path under my feet.

Journal entry by Susan Harms

WAHOO!!!!  Tests completed, and Everything Looks Good!!!!!

All that remains in lung looks like scar tissue, my brain is clear and no sign of cancer anywhere!!!!!

In mid November, I will begin a two-week preventative radiation treatment, which reduces the 60% risk of small cell cancer traveling to my brain, down to 30%.

Thank You So Much for your caring concern and for the support you have given me through this long process!!!  It has meant a lot to me, and I know it helped achieve the Wonderful Results!!!!!

Be Well and Prosper!!!!!!!
