Journal entry by Shannon Arboneaux —
I got another update today from Susan‘s doctor. She actually has two pulmonologist that work with her. The one I spoke with today is definitely more optimistic than the other one! He admitted that himself. In the next week or two they are slowly trying to wean Susan off of the ventilator. There are two factors in her making a full recovery and not being ventilator dependent. One is that her muscles get stronger and two is that her lungs are able to breathe on their own. He said if her muscles that she uses to breathe can get stronger, she has a good chance at a full recovery. We also have to see if her damaged lungs will cooperate.
All of that being said, we are at a much better place than we were just a week ago or so. She is recovering well from her infection and seems to be in pretty good spirits every time I see her!
I will update again once anything changes.
