Journal entry by Rachel Ragosa

Dear Friends and Family,

Merry Christmas to each and every one of you! Matt, Lex, Mila, and Phoenix are hosting Pete, Laura and me here in Oakland, for the holidays. We had a scare, though. On the night of the 23rd, Pete started coughing, and by the morning is the 24th, he sounded awful. I called Kaiser and arranged a Northern Cal # for him, and Matt, Laura and I got him into Primary Care for a 4:10 appt.  He was admitted to the ER by 4:55, where they did labs, EKG, blood work and X-rays.

Bottom line, he has double pneumonia, both viral and bacterial. They kept him overnight for observation and pumped him full of meds and fluids. He was released Christmas Eve afternoon and is slowly improving. The best thing is that the pneumonia is not related to his cancer; the worst thing is that his cancer has left him so debilitated that this has hit him really hard. Laura and I will share the driving to get us all home tomorrow, so fingers crossed, no worries there. It has been great to be here, but it will be even better to get back home. We ask you all for your prayers and positive thoughts but please, do not call or text us asking for updates. Either Rachel or I will post updates as we can.

Much love to all, and Happy Holidays! We can’t wait to put 2018 in our rear view mirror!

Xoxo- Peg
