Steven’s Story

Site created on April 27, 2018

This is the story of my son Steven Gerber, age 11, and his journey through cancer treatment. Thank you for visiting this site to follow his progress.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Steven Gerber

Steven had two routine scans (every 3 months) today, a spinal MRI and Chest X-Ray, and both show no evidence of disease!   Steven will have a CT scan/MRI next October at our regularly scheduled check up.  Dr. Cramer (our oncologist) continues to order scans of various sites where cancer could show up again, which is why Steven sometimes has different kinds of scans at his check ups.

Steven is having a wonderful summer! He’s had a week of Boy Scout Camp in Traveler’s Rest, SC, and loved it, and is heading off to another camp Sunday for a week closer to home in Batesburg-Leesville, SC.  He’s been swimming, visiting his cousins, going to Carowinds, riding bikes, spending time with friends and getting geared up for NFL football in the fall ( he’s on every football/sports app there is).  His various theories  on how the Green Bay Packers will beat everyone  (especially his mom’s team The Bears) are pretty interesting—he knows his football!

His Make A Wish trip is scheduled for the week of September 23, and since he is only child he can chose another friend or family member to come with him, so his best friend (whose family from Wisconsin and are big Packers fans) will also be coming with him.  Steven has the best friends and they have helped him so much to get through everything. We really wish we could bring them all with us!! The game will be televised (September 26 Green Bay vs Philly, Thursday night evening game).  We doubt we’ll make it on tv, but Steven is really hoping to get on the Jumbotron😋!

The Gerber Trio is heading to Niagra Falls in August, with stops in Hershey, PA and Pittsburg, PA (to cross Heinz field off the list of NFL stadiums and see a pre-season game).

Lots of Facebook photos to come😊

Lastly, I have a prayer request ( if I could ask one more) for my aunt, uncle, cousins, their families and wife and daughter of my cousin Kevin Dabrowski who fought thymic cancer bravely, faced the end of his life with grace and humility, and left this world better for having him in it. I pray for comfort and peace now and as as time goes on.  The Dabrowski’s are a true example of love in action.

Hoping everyone has a safe summer and finds a way to have fun and stay cool ❤️

With all the love and gratitude our hearts can hold,

The Gerber’s
