Journal entry by Sunny Hawkins

Well… I went to my oncologist a couple of weeks ago for chemo, and my labs showed low platelets and elevated liver enzymes among other things. She had just graduated me to a new chemo because my liver numbers had continued to climb on the previous one. Unbeknownst to me, this chemo was basically the last option she felt like she had for me. And now with low platelets and increasing liver enzyme counts, she was not even going to be able to give this chemo to me. She gave me option of having my labs rechecked in a few days. I did that, and unfortunately, things had not improved significantly enough to give me the treatment. My oncologist recommended and referred me for hospice. I am on HOSPICE.

“…I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful...”

Philippians 1:23-24

I do not doubt my readiness to meet God. But I do want to be able to say in good conscience that I did all that I could to be here to raise my children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

To that end, I have applied to the Sedona Wellness Retreat for their Gerson-like Therapy. Gerson Therapy has been helpful to many people with late stage cancer like mine and has been known in many cases to reverse it altogether. One of its main targets is the cleansing and health of the liver— my main issue. I could go to Sedona as early as 7/31 (my birthday) if I can find the funds. My husband says that we don’t have it. I hate to be in a position to have to ask, but I also hate to be so proud that I cannot ask for what I need. So I’m toying with begging and borrowing. If the Lord provides, I’ll be embarking on a total lifestyle change soon— for the sake of the work He has me to do. My CashApp is $msunnyhawkins. For Zelle, you can use my phone number.

If you’d like to visit, I’d like that. I tire easily, but I love short visits. I know some incredible people, and I love seeing them— even briefly. Phone conversation is more of a challenge. When faced with a ringing phone while I have a visitor, the visitor will usually take precedence for me.

It’s still not too late to pray. The Lord is still able to give me more time. And yet I am grateful for the time He has given. There is an unspoken prayer need in my life, and I ask that you would pray for God’s intervention in this touchy situation. But the great thing is that it’s part of the reason I don’t want to give up just yet.

I love you all, and I pray the Lord’s blessing upon you and yours— as your souls prosper.

In hope,
Sunny
