Stuart’s Story

Site created on March 28, 2020

Welcome to Stu Baby’s CaringBridge website. After receiving his ALS diagnosis in December 2019 and being laid off from his teaching job, Stuart's life began to turn upside down. While he continues to bring joy and laughter into the world, he's also being challenged emotionally, physically and financially. Stuart’s also looking into new living situations as living alone has become more and more challenging. The amazing news is how much love, support, kindness and generosity Is coming from people like you. We are all blown away by this and Stuart says "It's the reason I keep going - C’mon let’s dance!!” We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Feel free to check out some silly photos in the “Gallery”, write a note in “Well Wishes” or donate to the Go Fund Me site in “Ways to Help” (Make sure you’re at the Go Fund Me site for Stuart as Caring Bridge is also seeking donations for their organization.)

THANK YOU FOR VISITING!!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Stuart Hicks

Hi there - thank you for stopping by. Here is a quick update. The big news is that I will be moving into a retirement community in SF by June 1st. While my time in Palo Alto and Redwood City has been ok, it has also been somewhat isolating. So I’m looking forward to joining a community of people I can connect with and more importantly, I’ll be closer to more of my dear friends who have been so thoughtful and supportive.

The rent for the new place is higher (though meals and activities are included) so feel free to visit my go fund me site (under “ways to help”) with all the extra money you might have!

I’ll also be selling my car as my arms and hands have gotten weaker (so let me know if you want to buy a great 2013 Toyota Corolla?). Otherwise, my legs are still strong and I’m trying to eat more as I continue to lose muscle mass in my upper body. As you can imagine there are good and bad days but I am looking forward to more positive connections and experiences in my new place. Thanks again for stopping by!
