steve’s Story

Site created on May 28, 2018

Hello all. Steve was diagnosed with a glioblastoma three weeks ago on May 7. This tumor in particular is especially noxious as it is not operable and is very aggressive. We have been having a hard time keeping everyone up to date as it has been so surprising and every single day has brought the unexpected. In addition, the depth of caring and love has left me quite unprepared even though I've always known he's an excellent/intriguing human.  Unfortunately, steve has essentially been unable to have people visit as he has had extreme fatigue, and I mean extreme, like in bed for 23 hours of the day. However, this memorial weekend has been a glorious one with kids, and moms, and all of us together. So, here we are..... love you all.

So grateful for everyone who made it on the 11th to come and celebrate Steve and to grieve his passing. There are so so many people to thank for helping to put together the memorial service and the life celebration - especially for making it something that Steve would have appreciated. Aside from my family and Barbara’s family, who have been so supportive and present from the beginning, we’d like to give special thanks to:

Reverend Powell who carried us through this time and opened his church to us even though we were not of his congregation

All of you who spoke or played at his service - a feat of so much love - each of you did right by Steve

The “spreadsheet” Sisters, Amanda and Brigit, who took over planning the Life Celebration, and to you volunteers from all nooks and crannies of our lives, who managed to put on an incredible sad party.

Rob, owner of Falling Sky, who really hooked us up with great food and beer, and who I suspect delivered much more than we ordered.

And, finally, to Ted. You were there from the beginning for all the things we needed and even those things we didn’t know we needed.

For those of you who couldn’t attend, no worries, Steve was never one for much sentimentality, and from what I hear many of you were out in the world doing things Steve loved to do - although he’d likely have given you a hard time for missing it! We missed you but knew you were there in spirit

One final thing, the Kidsports donation page is a bit hard to navigate, and I did receive a few checks because of it. If you’re still wanting to donate, feel free to send a check our way, written out to Kidsports. Message me if you need our address.

Love to you all, and as Steve liked to say, see you on the flip side.

Andree, Barbara, and Kids
