Steve’s Story

Site created on July 12, 2019

Welcome to Steve's CaringBridge page!

First and foremost, Steve, Janae & their kids would like to say a big "THANK YOU" to all of our family and friends who have been supportive from day one of Steve's unexpected journey.

To recap his diagnosis, Steve has an aortic aneurysm which is also causing a valve to leak. The plan is to remove the aneurysm, replace that portion of the aorta with a graft and then surgeons will evaluate the valve to see if it can be successfully re-attached or if it will need to be replaced.

**Surgery is scheduled for Wednesday July 17th, 2019 at 7am at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA**

We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in lieu of text messages and phone calls. Desi will be updating this page during surgery and hospital recovery time. Steve is looking forward to hearing your messages and plans on a quick recovery...he has an important Hawkeye football game to attend!

We are incredibly grateful that this issue was caught before things escalated. We continue to ask for prayers for Steve's surgery and recovery, for his surgeon and staff that are performing the procedure, and for family that is helping to take care of him.

We are very grateful for our faith, family and friends who have kept us positive and strong!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Desi Nissly

Hello everyone! I apologize for not having updates these past couple of days.
The great news you have surely been wanting to hear is that Steve busted out of the hospital Saturday afternoon!
It has been an ongoing struggle for him to get comfortable and to sleep since he has been home due to the pressure in his chest. **Because of this, we've decided that we still need to hold off on visitors for the time being. **
Janae went to the store yesterday and picked up all of his favorite groceries in hopes that when he does have an appetite, she will have what he is craving on hand! She is staying home with him all week, along with Sam who is home for the summer, so he is in good hands!
We look forward to Steve feeling better soon so that we can open the home up to visitors. Until then, we will keep in touch here and there with general updates on his progress.
