02/06/18 I am excited about using CaringBridge as a way to keep everyone updated on Steve's progress as he continues to battle brain cancer. We are in the middle of week four of six chemo/radiation treatments and counting down the days ... As many of you know, the daily drive to the Cancer Treatment Center for radiation takes several hours per day in addition to the other medical appointments. The staff and quality care at the Kaiser Cancer Center is amazing and makes the drive worthwhile. Steve is a real warrior and his only real side effect is fatigue. We will find out on April 2nd how effective the treatment was and it will help us determine the best next steps. In addition to the chemo/radiation treatments, Steve is participating in PT, OT and Speech Therapy. He is making great progress and enjoying the sessions with the treatment team. We visited the optometrist today and Steve will be getting 2 new pairs of glasses in the next couple of weeks. This should improve his ability to navigate his world and start reading and writing again!!
I am still on leave from work and am so thankful for Cisco's support throughout these past several months. I have been able to fully commit to taking care of Steve and am grateful for this ... He still needs 24/7 care and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to provide it during this critical period.
For everyone who donated to the gofundme effort, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Without your generosity and support, Steve would not be able to live at home. We use the lift multiple times per day to get in and out of the house as well as the ADA bathroom. We are planning to use the majority of the funds remaining to hire a home caregiver for Steve so that I can return to work. Each day brings new challenges and my heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has brought meals, spent time with us, stepped in to provide care, sent cards and notes, called to check in, donated to support Steve and our family and sent prayers and wishes for Steve's health and happiness. I will continue to keep you updated weekly or when there is something timely to share.
I am not sure all of you have heard the sad news that Steve passed away on October 27th. I wanted to reach out and personally invite you to attend Steve’s celebration of life this coming Saturday, 11/24. Your support during Steve's journey as been amazing and if you can make the service, we would be grateful.
