Stephanie’s Story

My story...

That’s been a action filled story for the last couple of years. Started in 2016 when I had a mastectomy on the right side because cancer was found in 12/15 lymph nodes. I did all the traditional things, surgery, chemo, radiation - etc. Once I got through all that, last June I had an extreme ascites and it looked like I was 6 months pregnant. I was at work in Kennedy’s and went to the ER in Atlanta only to discovered that cancer had returned and this time it had moved to my liver, pelvis, vertebrae and hips. It broke my T5 vertebrae and my hip bone and there is a large tumor in my pelvis.

My doctors in Atlanta immediately put me on IBRANCE and I have been on this pill form of chemo ever since. It has helped tremendously and after a lot of nausea, pain and sleeplessness the tumors have gotten slightly smaller and I am very grateful to everyone who has been with me and helped me along the way! Especially my mother who was there for me to open her home for me to move back in when my husband asked me for a divorce 2 months before. I also had been convicted of a DUI so I couldn’t drive, I needed money because I couldn’t work and my husband did not help me financially AT ALL.

So I wanted to have a place that I could enter updates on a regular basis and everyone I know can be included and no one is left out and I can have all of us be a part of this is a group if you want to. If anyone doesn’t want to, I completely understand.

I cannot begin to thank everyone who has been a part of my story and texted me and supported me and made me like a human being again. I could have just given up and lived off the disability I was awarded but instead I have gone back to work, moved to Kansas City and tried to start over AGAIN. I would love this time not to start over but to keep going. I know I can do it because I have so many great people helping me. So, I would love to hear from you - and let’s chat because everyone is important and meaningful to me. Thank you!

Journal entry by Stephanie Howe

Thursday, August 16, 2018:

So it was kinda a bummer cause I had to go into the ER on my birthday but my abdominal region had gotten so painful that I did not have the medications to deal with the situation at home. All of this on top of the fact that my poor mother had an estate sale planned for one of her clients!

But in true Jayne trooper fashion - she soldiered in we “got ‘Er done” and I think no one suffered very much - except for her working her tail off - and hopefully for her part - the main parts will be completed today.

As far as my medical condition is they drew 1600mL fluid which helped tremendously with the pressure and pain but didn’t do much for the overall girth of my abdominal region so I am anxious today to hear how the surgeons plan to deal with the loculated portion of all this fluid and remove it permanents from around the tumor in my pelvis region.
