Stephanie’s Story

Site created on June 4, 2018

In 2014, when Steffi was 19, that was the first time she was told she had Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), a complication of her Type 1 Diabetes. After just 6 months, she went from stage 2 CKD to stage 3. A couple years later it went from stage 3 to stage 4, and in November of 2016 she was told she would need a kidney transplant. In July of 2017 she went down to the Mayo Clinic, Rochester to get evaluated and was approved for a Kidney-Pancreas Transplant. In November of 2017, after a routine doctor visit, Steffi was told she might not be able to wait much longer for a kidney and would have to ask people to get tested. Her two siblings, Leonard Gabbert & Cally (Gabbert) Endres were tested. Cally is her perfect match! They were approved for surgery in Match of 2018. Surgery is scheduled for June 12th, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic. Through this Caring bridge we hope to update you on how the healing process is going for both Steffi & Cally. Prayers are very much appreciated while they undergo their surgery! Thank you!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Stephanie Gabbert

After much anticipation, the surgeon cancelled Steffi's procedure.
An artery in the pancreas was of insufficient value. He felt that blood flow would be compromised, clotting could occur, and an additional surgery could ensue.
Steffi is high on the list. He stated that he would probably be seeing us again in the next few weeks.
Continued prayers are appreciated on behalf of the donor's family.
