As the clock in Stan’s room struck 9 last night, he breathed his last. Although he had struggled mightily for several days, his end came peacefully, with just the two of us in the room. It had been a wonderful day. Pastor Julie (a soprano) and Molly the hospice music therapist (an alto) sang some of Stan’s favorite hymns - Beautiful Savior, Amazing Grace and Softly and Tenderly - so beautifully. Tim and Jessica knelt at his bedside and Kathy and Mark came to take Vicki to dinner and to say goodbye to Stan. Vicki had just gone back to the house when Stan passed. So grateful she was able to extend her visit to be with us both. Before Stan was taken away, the staff at on duty at Norris Square gathered around his bed together with Steve and Amy, Vicki and Tom and Judy Thompson to say their farewells and to talk about Stan and what he meant to them. Today has been a whirlwind of activity , all in preparation for his service on Saturday, October 20, at 11 a.m. at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Inver Grove Heights. The obituary will appear in the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Sunday, October 14. Thank you for following us on our journey. We are forever grateful for your kind comments and the love and prayers you sent to us on a daily basis. God bless.
