Soontaree’s Story

Site created on August 10, 2019

Welcome to Thoy's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

As many of you may know, Thoy was diagnosed with cancer on May 12th, 2018.

On August 4th 2019 she was not feeling well, with dizziness and blurred vision. She was able to get in to see her doctor on August 6th, with the doctor visit turning into a trip the to the ER. At the UofM ER they confirmed that she had a handful of mini strokes within the last few weeks. With a minor stroke happening on Aug 4th.

She was admitted to the hospital that night. August 7th  and 8th she was feeling a bit better, with plans to go home on August 9th. On Thursday August 8th around 11:30pm she had a significant stroke that resulted in her having a blood clot removed from her brain via a thrombectomy procedure.

That stroke caused impairment to the left side of her body and more vision impairment. Since then, they have done multiple scans and have found swelling and bleeding on her brain.

She is currently coherent and verbal, but is being sedated to help with the bad headache pain she has, so that is making her very sleepy and more comfortable.

Thoy has always been a social person with a lot of friends and family.  She is welcoming visitors but also needs her rest, so we're requesting shorter in room visits. There is a family lounge available at the hospital as well, for those who would like to stay longer.

We appreciate all the calls and messages. We would like to direct all questions to this website. She is currently at:
University of MN Medical Center East Bank
500 SE Harvard St
Minneapolis, MN 55455

Please ask the information desk for her room number as she may be moved to a new room soon.

Journal entry by Andrea Giddings

Thoy and I said our Private Goodbyes during her terminal cancer illness while still arranging more travels. Thank you to all our Great Friends and Family for help and support during this transition into a different life for Thoy and I. We had the best 25 years of our lifespans. The travels and adventures were continuous, she was the sailboat and I probably an anchor to slow it down,(not much), I realize much more, how spoiled I was...Never hungry, whatever that feels like. Traveling the United States and parts of the world, Thoy had no fear in seeking new travels and adventures.

Thoy I miss you and Love you.

Family and Friends stay close as my numbness is just beginning.
