Dear Bo, Thank you for sharing this beautiful story of your grandmother's final days with you. All of us at Thirteen were continually inspired by her determination and independence. Having been separated from one another for so long during this pandemic, it is a comfort to us to know that she was surrounded by love as she departed a life so well-lived. How fortunate we were to know her. Thanks to your family for sharing her with us and may all the gifts she bestowed on you throughout your lifetime live on in you and all you touch. You have already begun living her legacy ....

Such beautiful memories and what a wonderful presence to have in your life. So happy you were able to spend time with her before she made her peaceful transition. I hope you're able to find the space to mourn. Although we're in California, we're here for you if you need anything. Sending you big love and hugs ~ Rosanna, Carl & Gus

Thank you for posting this very fitting tribute to Sonja. She often shared pictures and stories of her family when she was working on one of the many volunteer projects at WNET. As someone who worked as part of the education team, I was often struck by how calmly Sonja approached some of the tasks - with a determination to get them done even as some of the deadlines were in minutes! We discussed swimming and Italy and music - and she left an impression much larger than would seem given her petite frame. Thank you for sharing a bit more of her life - she was well loved, and loved well in return.

It's special to read this account of Sonja and how she embraced life. I work at WNET, where Sonja volunteered, but only had occasion to see her in the hallways. Her very slow walk embodied strength, patience, and perseverance. I imagine so many people would have said, "I can't - or shouldn't - do this," but she did it. She may have been small in stature, but she made a big impression. She certainly was fearless to float through the careless rush and bumps of the city streets. I'm sad to read of her passing, but am glad to read how she spent her last year with a loved and loving family. May her memory be a blessing.

Bo and family, ny heart is full of mixed emotions...sadness and warmth for a life well lived. May the fond memories, joy, and strength guide you through this difficult time. Continue to savor and celebrate while always keeping that Italian spirit alive.

My feelings are made up of all these moments Nona Sonja and I shared.

The most important one to me was seat belting her into the car before our sightseeing trips this last year. She would sometimes say "thank you for your patience" and I would sit next to her and look into her eyes and think how lucky I am to show her the love and care that she showered on me my whole life.
